About The Bull Brentwood

On Brook Street in Brentwood, The Bull is a pub and gastropub with a 20 item menu that runs to British dishes, kids' options and bar snacks. Most of the menu is available gluten-free, including the sticky toffee pudding and the fish and chips, and staff can answer questions on coeliac needs and cross-contamination, noting requirements on the receipt. Table service is run by waitstaff, and reservations are recommended, particularly through the Christmas and office party season when the pub gets busy. The step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and outdoor seating is available for those who prefer to eat outside. Dogs are welcome throughout. Parking is available around the back, and the pub opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

Gluten free options draw repeated praise, with reviewers highlighting that nearly the whole menu can be made GF, from the gluten free cajun burger and gluten free sticky toffee pudding to gluten free fish and chips, and diners with coeliac disease describing staff who understood cross contamination and confirmed it on the receipt. Close behind, the Sunday roast, duck salad, tuna nicoise, and veg pie earn mentions as generous, freshly made dishes at reasonable prices. Service is repeatedly called friendly and attentive, though one visitor describes waiting for their table and one diner reports being met with a frowned face and told the kitchen was closing shortly after arriving in the evening, calling the attitude uncomfortable. A couple of others note the room felt quite warm and one mentions slight confusion over a drink order. Several reviewers say they would return, with one describing finishing a Sunday roast with a gluten free sticky toffee pudding as the perfect ending.

“As we walked through the door and looking for a table to dine in (22Jul2026, 7:45pm), the young waitress in the front desk looked at us with a frowned face, and with a questioning tone she asked "Is everything OK? The kitchen closes in 10 minutes". The operating hours doesn't match the Google description, and we were made very uncomfortable with that kind of service attitude.”

“First visit to this restaurant today. My wife and I arrived on time but had to wait 20 minutes for our table to be ready, not good. However, following this ‘not so good’ start, the service from our waitress was superb throughout and she was lovely. The menu is extensive, not cheap, but good wholesome gastro pub food. My wife and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast prior to our departure later on in the day to Italy. All in all a pretty good sendoff, we will definitely be back.”

“This place is amazing for celiacs! So much choice, and the food is incredible. My partner doesn’t even notice that it’s gluten free - couldn’t recommend it enough.”
  • Matt Redman
“The only pub I have ever been to where every single item on the menu can be made gluten-free. Worth going specially if you are gluten sensitive/intolerant or coeliac. Besides that, everything is homemade and the things that aren't like the …”
