About Pipe Major
Pipe Major is a family-friendly pub in Dagenham, on Yew Tree Ave, with a beer garden and a play park next door, so families can eat with space for children to play. The carvery is sliced to order and comes with yorkshire puddings, potatoes and cauliflower cheese, and a Sunday roast is also on the menu. Fish and chips gives a lighter option, and lunchtime has smaller meals for those who want less. The pub also works as a bar, where people drink and watch sports games. Food orders are placed through an app.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints are specific and serious. One diner describes dry, overbaked baguettes, overcooked chicken and bacon, and drinks orders that arrived wrong. A family birthday Sunday roast reportedly had no roast potatoes, and the diners say the sausages looked undercooked and raised food safety concerns. They were given full refunds. One reviewer says they phoned repeatedly and nobody answered, and a daytime visitor notes rowdier behaviour in the evening.

“Popped in yesterday for a quick pint, it was relatively quiet for a Saturday which was surprising I ended up having a fish and chips and it was absolutely beautiful good portions and tasted amazing definitely worth the price. The team (I was served by a lily and a emily) were incredibly friendly and a pleasure to say hi to as well as service being speedy would definitely recommend popping down. thank you!”

“Had a lovely lunchtime carvery in here a few weeks back. The carvery had only just opened, so the produce was all piping hot and fresh. Meat was really succulent and so tasty. Everything cooked perfectly (I don't particularly like stuffing, but always tastes good in here). The potatoes tasted amazing and love the cauliflower cheese. The guy carving the meat was very friendly and helpful.”

“Someone persuaded us that The Pipe Major had much improved after a change of management, (what about the chef?), so despite after telling ourselves never again, twice over the years, we caved in. After, a grunted greeting, we were shown to a table. Looking around there was only one other table occupied which was surprising for the day and time we were there. It was extremely warm with one small improperly installed air conditioning unit doing nothing except wasting electricity. There were staff wandering aimlessly or chatting so after ordering on the app, it was a surprise for our drinks to take more than 10 minutes to arrive, with the shandy served as a normal pint and the juice with too much ice when a little was requested, obviously they didn't read the order properly, at least the coke arrived with no ice as ordered. The food took 20 minutes to arrive with dry overbaked baguettes and dry overcooked chicken and bacon on offer. I cannot understand why the baguette wasn't buttered, it might have improved it, I certainly do not make a sandwich/roll without buttering the bread. The fries had far too much black pepper sprinkled on, which were advertised as skin on fries, nothing about pepper. The place was getting a little busier so it was a surprise for our 2nd order of drinks to arrive within a couple of minutes, correct this time. We could see the carvery from where we seated. Meat not very well covered, yorkies not at all and obviously sitting under the heat lights for a long time. Thought the food overpriced for the end result. Shame because we've been to another venue of the same brand and had a lovely meal with great service and it was a lot busier, so it can be done. Our conclusion? Never ever again.”

“I was surprised, I walked in thinking I was going to see just drinks and alcohol, but they had a full on menu. I ordered steak with some mixed vegetables and it was very delicious, the restaurant doubles up as a bar for people to drink and watch the latest sports games. I also ordered ice-cream for dessert and it was really good. Nothing else to say other than this was my daytime experience, but during the evening there would be an increase in drunkard behaviours and silly antics. Otherwise it's a bar as usual”

“The food was absolutely lovely, really tasty across to all the family. It was very family orientated and very social. The service was absolutely amazing, very quick and made sure everything was okay before, during and after. The atmosphere was impeccable, had usual talking but nothing that is out of the ordinary - quiet enough to talk to my family when visiting. Been a good few times”
