About The Jolly Tars

On Victoria Rd W in Thornton Cleveleys, The Jolly Tars is a Wetherspoon pub built around a large, living room-style layout, with a huge fireplace and leather sofas alongside more conventional open seating and a couple of secluded booths. The menu spans 87 dishes, including a Traditional Breakfast, wings, bites, strips, and a Southern-Fried Chicken Wrap, with a Flat White on the drinks side. Ordering is done through the app rather than at the counter, though a clock-fronted counter area remains a feature of the room. Food service runs longer hours than at many other pubs, and the pub opens daily. Reservations are recommended, since breakfast and weekend mornings draw enough custom to make tables hard to find. A terrace at the back offers outdoor seating, and dogs are welcome there. Street parking outside is limited to an hour, as there is no dedicated car park on site.

Customer Review Summary

A recurring complaint centers on staff and management attitude. One reviewer describes being scolded over phone volume while seated near loud kitchen music, another recounts a manager reprimanding a staff member for chatting with customers, and a reviewer with disabilities reports feeling unwelcome, citing a waitress and a manager with a poor attitude. A family group visiting from out of town says they were told to be quiet or leave. Busy periods also draw notice, with diners describing struggles to find a table, though some suggest arriving before mid afternoon or ordering through the app.

“Decent service, but best using the app. Free WiFi, food can be decent and sometimes not so. When it's busy you will struggle to find a table and just walk round in circles waiting on a table to be come available. Good selection of beers as well Best time to get a table is before 4:30-5:00pm”

“First time here and what a very pleasant time we all had 😀 ordered food and drinks on the app and although very busy, they both came very quickly. Overall a fantastic place to eat and drink 👍👍👍 …”

“Standard Wetherspoons menu. Food was good. Place was very busy and luckily we got a table for 6 but be prepared for a lengthy wait for a table if you visit when it's busy.”

“i go spoons alot however i went to the jolly tars on the 10th july in the evening around 7 with some colleagues from work. i am normally very happy with the service however when i stepped outside i started talking to a lovely staff member however the manager i think it was came out and took her inside when i then entered the restaurant again she was telling the staff member off for talking to customers (good customer service, which the manager clearly lacks) i found this very unprofessional and was going to say something however i have social anxiety so i was to awkward to say something, i think the manager needs lessons on how to respect the staff and professionalism.”
