  “Had an Uber eats delivery at the weekend, really fancied tasty, filling and are really nice treat - especially not cooking, it was so welcoming, delivery was punctual, updated though the site. When it arrived, in the usual tidally tied bag, we'd a pashwari Nan and a couple of our usual mains the lamb was wonderfully tasty and vegetarian bahji which although more crispy than I'm use to, enjoyed with a small pot of Mango chutney and the rest of the meal went away easily and quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

  “Brilliant Indian restaurant. Lamb infused with crushed coriander seeds as a starter (small, but divine) followed by Railway Lamb main with Tandoori pineapple desert was simply awesome. My partner and friend tried different dishes. All were perfect. Friendly helpful staff along with original decor completed a wonderful evening helped by the air con because when we arrived st 6:00pm, it was 34° outside.”

  “We had planned to visit for lunch but found the opening hours quite limited, so we returned later. The menu looked promising, but the biriyani prices were surprisingly high—around £15, compared with the £6–8 I usually pay even in London. At that price, I expected something exceptional, but it made me hesitate. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to try the food on a future visit, but extending the lunch hours and reviewing the pricing would make the restaurant more appealing”

  “Update to my original review - Having called and spoken to Gopinath after he reached out, we returned to Mattancherry on Saturday evening. The food really is SO good, they absolutely deserved another try, and from my phone conversation they are clearly passionate about their service and welcome too. For my third visit I am happy to say the service was all that I hoped it would be. Gopinath and his team had made us so welcome on our first visit, and it was reassuring to be able to experience this great service and a lovely atmosphere again, and confidently put any previous negativity into the past. Thank you, we will definitely keep coming back. Original review - This was our second visit to Mattancherry. Our first visit was faultless, with great food and fabulous service. This time the service was not good. Our mains arrived (mine was actually handed to me across the table, rather than being placed on the table like everyone else... Hmm) with only half the rice we ordered. We pointed this out, and started eating what we had, expecting it to arrive soon, but nothing happened.. while our food got colder. We eventually got the attention of another staff member, rice eventually arrived and we could finish our meal. Payment at the end of the night was perfunctory, with no attempt at "did you enjoy your meal" "was everything OK" "look forward to seeing you again". A shame really. Food great, setting great, our first visit was great, but this was not the same experience. We meet up every month and normally book as a group of 6-8 when we meet up for a curry, so this was a smaller group of just three of us, but we agreed as we left that we couldn't really recommend again to the usual larger group. Disappointing, as this visit was on my recommendation.”

Due to its popularity and consistently busy atmosphere, it is advisable to book a table in advance. Overall, a highly recommended restaurant for anyone looking to enjoy authentic South Indian cuisine in a clean, welcoming, and well-managed setting.”

  “The food was okay, and I did fill out the award survey which I now regret. A few reasons, there are no kids menu which is such a shame. The gulab Jamon was cold, but not all of them, they charged for a tiny pot of raita for my son who had to have it because there’s no kids menu. The lentils were hard and not cooked, the meat just added without taking on the flavour so it was dry. Overly price for what it is. I wouldnt go again”

  “Mattancherry, Taunton — wow, just wow. Some meals you enjoy… and some you remember. This firmly sits in the latter. The tandoori salmon was, without exaggeration, the best I’ve had in years—perfectly cooked, delicately spiced, and not drowned in sauce (which, frankly, is where so many places go wrong). The aloo gobi? Comforting, balanced, and properly done—no shortcuts. Set in a great central location, the whole experience is elevated by superb service—attentive, warm, and quietly confident without ever overstepping. It’s easy to throw around phrases like “best in town”… but here, it actually feels justified. Quite simply, the best Indian in Taunton—and now I can see exactly why.”

  “This place used to be authentic, but not anymore. The ambience is still nice, but the food quality has gone down. I ordered for store collection and, for the price they charge, the service and packaging were disappointing. I trusted the order and didn’t check before leaving, but when I opened it later the food was poor quality and some items had already spilled from the boxes. They said 30 minutes but I waited almost 2 hours. I understand places can get busy, but this was frustrating without proper communication. I am posting this review after facing the same issue repeatedly and not rectified even speaking to the management in the past. Unfortunately, the management doesn't take the negative feedback well. Using 'Award winning restaurant' tag to ignore mistakes is really disappointing! 👎”

  “Really loved the food and the service here. In a short amount of time visited the restaurant already 3 times. The papadums with a trio of sauces is a great starter (mint sauce is actually mint sauce), the butter chicken is absolutely superb; tender and full of flavour, the tandoori salmon was also grilled to perfection 👌 and the vegetarian mango curry was so full of taste and rich of flavours...the spoon to serve was used to actually finish the bowl to the bottom. The service is friendly, fast and is very welcoming. Nice setting, cosy and warm. Keep it up!”

  “Dear Mattancherry staff, Thank you so much for an amazing experience on Friday. Your buffet set up was perfect for our Christmas party and the food was fantastic. Thank you for being so kind to meet the needs of our one member of staff with very specific food requirements. You managed this with tact and generosity. Please thank all your staff for cooking and serving. Your bar staff were amazing, and your manager upstairs could not be more helpful and hospitable.”
