Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips draw the most praise, with reviewers calling them the best they have had in years, and one ranking them above a well-known Cornwall chip shop. Diners single out a proper portion of chips, described as like the 1980s, along with freshly cooked fish and quick, friendly service. Close behind, long-time regulars say the fish and chips are usually exceptional. Consistency is the recurring complaint. Reviewers describe chips that were dry, hard and lukewarm, a large cod that was greasy and nearly inedible, and chips that were small and flavourless, with one asking whether the oil or batter had changed. One reviewer reports a wrap with far too much salt after a dispute in the shop over dirty oil, and another found the cod and chips average. A reviewer who had a bad night returned months later and found the meal delicious again. One group ordered 14 portions of fish and chips as a pre-carnival treat for guests from Portugal, and the guests loved it.

“I’ve come here every 2/3 weeks for last few years, always excellent. However last couple of visits have been poor. Chips were small, and yes I know there is a poor spud harvest and last Saturday, flavourless. We all looked at each other, so disappointing. Have you changed oil/ batter/something. Not sure we’ll be back!”

“I arrived yesterday evening, only to be greeted with the sorry we only take cash. 2 weeks ago, I purchased using a card, I don't get it, there is less & less cash about, yet lots of takeaways shun card machines. This is usually down to 2 reasons, either for tax avoidance, the other is the business is in decline, card machines are is not expensive & if you turn away more than 2 customers per evening then a card machine cost is justified. I've purchased cod & chips a couple of times & to be brutally honest, they were bang average taste wise & not cheap. I'm also surprised that any takeaways in Wellington survives, there is insufficient short term roadside parking for customers to use their services.”

“I arrived at the shop a few weeks ago only to be confronted in a shop full of people that i said that oil was dirty.. chef said come check it .. anyway i explained it wasnt me . Went in this evening to order a wrap ..got home and the amount of salt they obviously added was revenge on something i didnt say. Number 1 ... not professional holding someone to accountable for something they didnt do in a shop full of customers but to literally add so much salt to my food .. you should be ashamed of yourselfs... oh and there isnt a chef in that building... i have a higher food certificate than all of you .. im actually disappointed as i used to like your food ..”

“Just came on to say that is a PROPER portion of chips! It's like the 1980's!! Your large should make other chip shops ashamed and the service was the fastest I've had since the 1980's too. Change nothing this is what fish and chips is all about, I will be back, thanks”
