Customer Review Summary
Duck emerges as the dish most reviewers single out, with one diner calling the duck with orange sauce "absolutely delicious" and perfectly cooked, while another orders duck in plum sauce and finds the accompanying sauce pot oddly tiny. Close behind, the vegetable chow mein and a set menu are praised for good flavour and portions "perfect for two," and several describe the space as warm, family-run, and authentic, with staff explaining dishes and offering small tastings.

“We first tried a takeaway order with this restaurant on Chinese new year and were very much impressed with the food so my husband and I decided to try dining in and we were definitely not disappointed. We loved the atmosphere and felt how authentic this Chinese restaurant was. Food still amazing and met our expectations. Wonderful service too. Will definitely come back again. Glad to finally find a decent Chinese restaurant close to our home ❤️”

“We visited Peninsular Cantonese Restaurant and had a wonderful experience. It’s a warm, family-run place, and the whole team is polite and genuinely welcoming—they really make you feel at home. Special thanks to Carson. He explained everything clearly, made sure we were comfortable, and even gave us a few small tastings to try. Every dish was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. It was also my first time trying duck with orange sauce, and it was absolutely delicious.”

“Shocking NYE rip off. We paid £50 per person for a standard Chinese that would cost £15 per person on any other day. They charged £30 for young children! No greeting on arrival, no goodbye on exit. Nothing that would add a special touch to a NYE meal despite the price. No deserts tea or coffee offered. I wouldn’t have complained if it felt worth the price but I left feeling completely ripped off.”

“Went last night for our works meal. It was pre booked. We waited an hour for our food and over half hour for our drinks to arrive. I have no problem waiting as appreciate it was busy. I had the vegetable chow mein and I have to say it was really nice. However my other colleagues had a different experience! were served the wrong food and complained that it was bland and more like take out standard. This reflects my reason for giving 3 stars. The part that ruined the evening was when the bill arrived. They tried to charge us over £80 more than we owed. When we questioned this we were told they had added a service charge to the meal and drinks. This was not stated as we as a group were giving our own tip as paying cash. Eventually they removed the service fee but it was still £40 over. We asked for an itemised bill and it was clear to see that what they were asking was £49 over. Lucky for us we had written everything down and showed them. The manager , carol became very rude when she realised she had been caught out ! when we said we would pay only what we owed and also a tip from each of us. Not that it was deserved after our experience. It really ruined the evening. Sounds like they are ripping people off. I wonder how many customers they do this to and hope it won’t be questioned With being a larger group? And drinks flowing. Terrible. Will never return to this place again. Such a shame. It used to be lovely years ago but has changed hands now. If you do decide to go keep an eye on the bill. Write everything down.”

How this listing is sourced
- Where the data comes from
- Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
- How it stays current
- Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
- How it is ranked
- Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
