Customer Review Summary

Reviewers are split, but the super jumbo and XXXL fish and chips draw the most praise, with diners describing a massive portion, crispy but light batter, freshly cooked chips and a quick turnaround in store. One reviewer says the larger fish was worth every penny and the chips were not skimped. Others report that the same order went wrong: three small fish arriving instead of one big one, a broken fish, and mismatched chips, while another says a large standard fish came with off cuts and trimmings. Delivery draws complaints too, with soggy fish, overcooked salt and pepper prawns, and a wait of well over an hour after a quoted half hour, while the phone was left off the hook. One reviewer describes ending up ill after unlabelled spicy wings, cold chips, and a manager who offered no refund. Smaller notes include flaking batter, a chilly seating area, curry sauce that could be hotter, and a student deal of chips with four strips.

“Absolutely terrible food!!. No chicken in the wings only loads of batter, The wings were so spicy we couldn't eat them but to top it all off im allergic to spicy food and there was no specification that they were spicy!!, i ended up quite ill!!😤. Chips were cold and chicken strips were baked up!!. Rang up the shop to advise and the manager didn't apologise, try to sort out the problem and no refund offered!!!... 30 quid down the drain😡. I WILL NEVER EVER order from here again!!. Absolutely disgusting service!!!”

“The food is great and they serve you very quickly when you enter the store. The food is cooked pretty much to order and they do a great job at everything. The fish is great, the batter is crispy but light, the chips are really good. Updated on 8/5/2026 - last week I had the super jumbo fish and chips and it is worth every penny. What impressed me is that the quality didn't go down and they don't short change you with chips when you get such a big fish - it was all as good as ever. I really hope they never change as they are knocking it out of the park on fish and chips.”

“Good food and large portions sizes! Affordable if you are a student with student discounts. A large portion of chips and 4 strips was just £3.95 for students !”

“I recently ordered food from Mother’s Hubbard Takeaways and had a good experience. The food was fresh, tasty, and well cooked. The portions were generous and everything was packed nicely. The staff were also polite and the service was quick. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would recommend it to anyone looking for good takeaway food. I will definitely order again.”
