Gourmet Wok is a Chinese takeaway at 55 Brighton Rd in Surbiton, open since 1 July 2023. “Gourmet Wok is the Chinese Takeaway at 55 Brighton Road, Surbiton KT6 5LR officially opened on 1st July 2023. We are specialised in Southern China cuisine plus a touch of Thai dishes. Our chef has over 30 years experience working in restaurant and takeaway establishment. We are delighted to open the business in this lovely community. We determined to offer fresh cooked Chinese food with healthy and fresh fine ingredients. All our food items are fresh made in-house by our dedicated skilled kitchen team. We welcome everyone to try our products and service. We are thrilled to have the kind support and heart-warming well wishes from the lovely locals since we open.”

Noodles and fried rice draw the most praise, with reviewers singling out the chow mein, Singapore egg noodles, a smoky vegetable fried noodle and a house special fried rice. Close behind are the Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken, General Tso chicken and butterfly prawns with prawn toast. “Absolutely terrible experience. I placed my order over an hour and a half ago and was still waiting, which is completely unacceptable. When I called to ask about the delay, the lady on the phone was extremely rude and dismissive instead of apologising or offering any helpful information. The customer service was shocking, and the long wait only made the experience worse. I won’t be ordering from here again and certainly wouldn’t recommend this takeaway to anyone.”

“I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I ordered a lemon chicken dish, but what I received was far from acceptable. The meal included pineapple that clearly tasted like it had been stored for a long time in a tin container, as it had a strong metallic aftertaste that ruined the entire dish. The food did not seem fresh or properly preserved, and I was very concerned about its quality. I could not finish the meal and had to throw it away. Shortly after eating, I also felt unwell. Overall, this was a very poor experience and I would not recommend this place. I definitely will not be returning again.”

“Someone below mentioned that the food is authentic, but I can assure you that this is not authentic. My wife enjoyed it, saying the sweet and sour sauce was good. However, the big elephant in the room is that I never ordered sweet and sour sauce chicken n beef. Instead, I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and Szechuan Beef… Average taste, great service.”
