About The Lakeside Inn
The Lakeside Inn is a pub in Gateshead, on The Farm House, with exposed brickwork in the bar and a separate dining room at the back. The menu runs to 20 dishes, including the Peppercorn Chicken Stack, which has a salt and chilli chicken stack alongside it, and fish and chips served with mushy peas. Food is ordered at a sit-down table, and drinks are sometimes ordered at the bar. Live music, karaoke and a DJ fill the party nights, and bottomless brunch is on offer. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the hospitality, with several describing staff and managers who went out of their way: comping a round of drinks after a double booking, repeatedly asking the DJ to turn the music down for a guest with sensory issues, and lighting the fire and walking a family through the new menu. A bottomless brunch party also describes dancing with lovely staff. On food, the peppercorn chicken stack and the salt and chilli chicken stack get praise for big portions, plenty of sauce and chunky chips, while another diner calls the food freshly made. Complaints about the kitchen recur, though. Several describe very long waits, and others report burnt fish and chips, cold mushy peas, blackened chips, a tough mince and dumpling, and mash that looked powdered. One reviewer says there were no gluten-free options at all. After one table complained, the waiter offered free dessert.

“Due to a mix up our booking was double booked, but John and Courtney went above and beyound to make our night a good one. They commped us a round of drinks for the error and made sure we where comfortable. My sister arrived before myself and was abit worried about us beingnin the bar area as myself has auadhd and massive sensory issues and one of my biggest is sound (didnt bring my active noise canceling headphones due to adhd loss..) and was worried that the party with the DJ at the main bar would be an issue, the staff couldnt have been more amazing, everytime the music started to creap up they kept reminding the Dj tonlower the music, which to me was insaine as no one let alone a business, went out of their way to support me with my sensory issues (even though i felt mortified and self conious of this (rejection senitivity) they did their utmost best to keep the music at a resonable level, which for me was something ive never experenced and the staff need to be commended, the food was beauiful and we had a great night, after heading to the outdoor area as the party started kariokie and I didnt wanna spoil their evening, so we continued in the beer garden for a few birthdsy drinks for my dad and just had an amazing evening. Although the Ambience rating i only put 3 stars, that was only due to the clash of our booking mix up and being in the bar area near a party, apart from that everything was amazing and will deffinantly be going back, not just for the food but for the amazing staff who went above and beyound to make our evening xx”

“Took my mother and sister and partner out for a pub meal...this place keeps getting recommended to me. After ordering we waited 1 hour and 40 minutes for our meals, even after several times asking where our food was. Eventually it came. Fish and chips ..mushy peas were cold and looked like they'd been in the microwave a few times. Burnt fish and chips. My mince and dumpling was awful. Salty and a tough dumpling which wouldn't cut and looked like it had been stood on. There was barely any veg, looked liked they'd scraped it from the bottom of a pan. We all complained to be told by the waiter, who'd spoke to 'the manager ' we could have free dessert. The manager should have had the balls to deal with this themselves. This is the 2nd time this had happened...the difference being we're never going back. A very good catering phrase for the manager 'you're only as good as your last lunch' and that's certainly true of your restaurant. One last point, the service staff were lovely...”

“This is the first review I've ever done, and I think it's absolutely worth it. I went there with family, it was the launch day of their new menu, which we didn't know. When we arrived there, they weren't quite open for food but they were so helpful. The manager was absolutely amazing, she made us feel so welcoming. Sat us next to the fire which was put on for us, and got us all drinks. She took the time to talk to us, and had a good laugh with us. she also went through the menu with us and explained it all. The food was absolutely lush, and you got a great portion too. I will absolutely be going back there again, and I recommend everyone else to go too. Thank you Lake side for your excellent hospitality 😊.”

“Visited the Lakeside Inn after hearing good things about it for a family celebration. Location is good, nicely decorated inside with a pleasant atmosphere. Staff were okay, drinks were priced as you would expect and there was a happy hour on cocktails. However when it came to ordering food, I was informed that there are no gluten-free options at all. This meant that whilst all of our party was able to order a meal, I could not order anything. Very disappointed that a place like the lakeside cannot accommodate a diet requirement. First time this has ever happened in over 15yrs gluten free. I chose to leave our family event to go to another place where I could eat, which seemed like I had the best option as our guests waited well over an hour for their food. (We were informed there was a delay of 45 mins in the kitchen however it was closer to double that time) Not such a problem if the food was worth waiting for, but I am told it was below average at best. We also heard Other customers complaining that they had been there over an hour and not yet had any food. The staff complained that our party had not booked a table, this had been attempted prior to arrival with no response. Surely a restaurant as big as the lakeside when they are not even full can accommodate orders. Who would have thought taking business to an industry which is struggling would be such a problem. Disappointing and well below expectations, perhaps it was a bad night but as I won’t be returning, not somewhere we would give a second chance. If you’re gluten-free definitely avoid.”
