About Fostons Ash Inn
Fostons Ash Inn is a country pub with rooms on The Camp in Stroud. Guests walk through a rear garden from the car park to reach the entrance, and a bluebell woods loop of about 40 minutes starts from the same car park. The owner chef runs the kitchen on a seasonal menu that includes beef Wellington and gnocchi with stuffed courgette flowers. Dessert comes as sticky toffee pudding served as a slice of loaf cake. The bar pours local ales, wines and cocktails. Inside, a log burner is lit, and the tables carry candles and flowers.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints are mostly about service and consistency. One diner found the roast fatty with little meat, the custard sparse, waits long for lunch and pudding, and no vegetarian or allergy markings on the menu. Another felt standards had slipped since a year earlier, with malt vinegar that never arrived and loud backbeat music that was turned down on request. One calls the sticky toffee pudding a small slice of loaf cake. One reviewer advises booking ahead for lunch. A free birthday prosecco for the table left one group pleasantly surprised.

“As Foston's Ash Inn isn't nestled in a typical 'chocolate box' Cotswold village setting, it would be easy to just drive by, and we nearly did. Thankfully we didn't, as the pub itself is utterly charming, the service is both personable, professional and fun, and the food is 'out-of-this-world' superb! We spent the remainder of our 3 hour walk in raptures discussing every single mouthful of the delicious monkfish, gnocchi with lemongrass sauce dish we had savoured. We cannot wait to return.”

“One of the worse pubs we have been to in ages. My dad was unavailable to eat his lunch. To much fat and no meat. Hardly any custard in the pot. Serves was rubbish. Was never asked if we wanted any more drinks. No one came to see if our food was OK and the wait for lunch and pudding was disgraceful, to long to wait for lunch and pudding, yet they seemed they didn't care. Very poor service, need more training. Wouldn't recommend at all. Very poor. Not enough to eat for roast lunch. Also for a vegetarian person their was no (V) signs on the menu or allergy signs with is very important. Very very poor. Need lots of training. Not worse a penny the food. Plus the reviews on the page. Arr wrong. Very bad. 0 out of 10.”

“A great find! One of the best pub fish and chips I’ve had and the service was lovely. The free birthday prosecco for the guests was completely unexpected and a nice touch to the meal. My only criticism was the sticky toffee pudding was more so a slice of sticky toffee loaf cake, which made it expensive for what it was - would have been much better if it was a bigger portion.”

“Update 14/03/2026:- Went with family for Saturday lunch. Food still good but overall we didn't think it was up to the very high standard we so enjoyed a year ago. Attentive staff but one of our party asked for some malt vinegar that didn't arrive. A real disappointment was unnecessary loud music with a backbeat. We asked for it to be turned down as we couldn't comfortably chat with each other and the staff obliged but it was still annoying. 19/04/2025:- First impressions very good. Reserved a table for lunch in the bar area which was filling up with punters when we arrived towards 1 o'clock. I advise booking in advance. Didn't notice anywhere for someone to sit if they just wanted a drink which is often a problem when a pub becomes known for its cuisine. The food was delicious, restaurant standard. The service was good except for one server who, in her haste, spilt alittle of our 2nd round of drinks onto the table and made no attempt to return to wipe up. So an ordinary pub after all in some respects! 😄 But important here as they put 12.5% service charge onto the bill. There's a nice garden at the rear that you walk thru' from the carpark to the pub's entrance. They were hosting a choc egg hunt for people of all ages on Easter Sunday! 🐣 All in all we had a great meal and would definitely go again.”

“Tucked deep in the Cotswolds, The Fostons Ash Inn offers that classic, cozy pub atmosphere you hope to find in the countryside. The food is excellent, with the beef Wellington particularly worth recommending, and there’s a wide range of starters, mains, and desserts to choose from. Prices feel fair for the quality, and the friendly service adds to the relaxed, welcoming mood. The kind of place where you settle in and happily stay for hours. Quietly rated: worth stopping.”
