Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast dinners are the biggest draw here, with reviewers repeatedly praising the roast lamb, beef, and steak and ale pie, calling portions generous and the Yorkshire pudding and homemade chips standouts. Close behind, the pan fried chicken and steak burger with bacon and cheese also draw strong praise, and diners note a genuinely useful vegan menu alongside dishes like lasagne. Staff are consistently described as friendly and welcoming, with several calling out one woman, presumed to be the landlady or manager, for checking in on their meal or resolving a problem professionally. That said, a real split emerges: multiple diners report food arriving cold or barely warm, including a Sunday roast, a burrito, and homemade soup, alongside slow, scattered table coordination. Two separate reviewers describe more serious failures, one recounting a burger that didn't match its description with a hair found on the plate and an unapologetic response, and another describing a cold, undersized lasagne, an overly thin steak, and a £10 refund offered without apology on a bill over £100. Several reviewers mention paying before the meal arrives.

“We stopped in for a bite to eat after our hike, and it did not disappoint. Everything tasted genuinely homemade and fresh, which is exactly what you crave after being out in the fresh air. Whether you are looking for a hearty lunch to refuel or just a relaxing pot of tea and a snack, the menu hits the spot. The quality of the food really shines through in every dish. The service was just as impressive as the meal. The lady serving us was polite, welcoming, and genuinely friendly, making us feel right at home the moment we walked in. It is rare to find a place that balances such a relaxed, countryside atmosphere with such professional and attentive care.”

“just been for a meal at this pub and we had a minor incident which was dealt with by a young lady whom I presume is the manager. This lady dealt with the issue immediately with professionalism and I must mention that the food was delicious and cooked to perfection (in my opinion),we will certainly be using this pub again, thanks to all the staff especially the young lady who dealt with my minor issue.”
