The Ash Inn
Quick info
About The Ash Inn
The Ash Inn sits high on Mow Cop Rd in Stoke On Trent, a pub with an outdoor children's play area and its own football pitch for families with young children. A veranda at the back looks over the surrounding countryside, giving somewhere to eat and drink outside, and dogs are welcome. The lunchtime specials menu carries fish and chips, with homemade chips alongside. Beers and ciders on the bar include Bass and Landlord. A separate bar area runs beside the main dining space, and an open fire burns there in winter. The entrance is step free, so visitors with mobility needs can get in without steps. Booking ahead is advised, as a wait for a table is possible when the pub is busy. It opens daily, and the Castle and the Old Man stand close by.

Customer Review Summary
The chips draw the most attention, described as homemade and real, and they turn up alongside the fish and chips from the lunchtime specials that several call good value. Close behind is the beer, with pints of Bass, Landlord and Doom Bar named and one drinker calling the stout spot on. Also mentioned are cheesecake, a halloumi stack starter on a Sunday menu one vegetarian notes has no meat free main, and roast vegetables generous enough to make a meal alone. Reviewers point to the veranda out back, the views near Mow Cop, the children's play area and an open fire in winter, and one calls the pub cosy. Not everyone was made welcome. One visitor arriving with two daughters describes empty but dirty tables, being told nothing would be free for a long stretch despite free seating in sight, and leaving, calling the attitude rude. Another waited well past the time quoted for food, though the staff apologised.

“I visited here with my 2 daughters, just for a late lunch on saturday afternoon. As we entered, there was a large table with about 10 people on, the rest of the tables were empty but dirty. They appeared to have had a christening on or something. I was greeted by a young pleasant girl that asked me if we were part of the party which I said no, so she said that we could eat in the bar area. As we entered, there was a few small round tables only big enough for 2 really, as I looked around, a lady who was sitting on her own said "we have no tables at the moment and won't have for about half an hour to 45 minutes (grinning as she said this). I responded " ok we will go somewhere else, thank you" and we left. The service, attitude and atmosphere was rude. There were 4 tables in the main area that we could of sat at and tables in the bar area that they could of put together to make a table for us in the bar if they wanted. I quickly realised that they would not nor were they bothered about customers. Glad we left quickly and will not be returning! Just rude”

“Great place and Excelent food. Lovley clean place Very polite staff and helpful Great views. Kiddies play area Just one thing We were told the wait is up to 30 mins. That was not a problem. But we had to wait 1hour 10 mins. The staff did apologise.”

“Dropped in early on a Saturday afternoon when the dining area was relatively quiet. We received a very warm welcome and were made to feel at home even though we hadn't visited the Ash in recent times. The food was simply delicious and the portion sizes would please the most demanding of customers. The unintended consequence was that we couldn't sample the desserts. The only (small) blip was the limited range of teas to complete the meal. If you're a local or travelling to Mow to see the Castle or Old Man there is no reason for you not trying the Ash for yourselves. I would thoroughly recommend it. ps the real chips are worth the visit on their own!”

“Fish ‘n’ chips for £6.95 on the lunchtime specials menu is an absolute bargain, and lovely it is too. Washed down with a decent enough pint of Bass, or maybe Landlord or Doom Bar if you’d rather. Nice veranda out back if the sun is out. Great service and plenty of parking. Throw in a football pitch and play area for the little ones, what more do you want?”
