Customer Review Summary
Steak and ale pie from the Thursday Pie Night deal draws particular praise, with reviewers calling it packed with meat in a thick Guinness gravy, alongside cheesy garlic bread and a well-liked lamb and mint pie. Sunday roast and general food quality also get repeat mentions, with generous portions and friendly staff noted across visits, and several describe hosting private parties and even a wedding here with help from named staff members praised for their planning and communication. Chips are the one food quibble, described by one diner as more like baked wedges than the thick cut they'd have preferred. Separately, one reviewer describes a dispute over a hotel room booking and payment, saying they were accused of lying about paying before staff located the payment, and that the refund came without apology and with a request not to contact the business again. Aside from that account, recurring impressions center on friendly service and value, with one diner recalling two meals, two starters and two drinks for thirty pounds.

“Booked a room and paid for it via the link sent to me. Thought everything was fine till I got a message calling me a liar. And the room hadn't been booked and paid for Oh but it had - Julie eventually found my payment. No apologies just a rude text that my refund had been given (gawd knows how they found my card details) and not to contact them again. Lots of upset and anger caused and not even an acknowledgement or apology from them. Lesson learned, don't use the birches hotel”
