About The Soup Kitchen

The Soup Kitchen is a restaurant in Stafford, on Church Lane, set in a historic building divided into several rooms. The menu starts with coffee and scones, plus toast with a choice of jams, and extends to three-course meals. A homemade chicken, bacon and mushroom pie arrives with chips, gravy and veg, while the Roast of the Day comes in a bap with roast potatoes. Bread and butter pudding is on the dessert side, and afternoon tea includes a savoury option. Children can order a kids' pizza and add the toppings themselves, which gives families something to do at the table. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the welcome and the staff who go beyond the order. One couple was offered a tour of the historic building after the host noticed them looking around, and a family with a one year old describe a free meal for their daughter, plus toys and a sippy cup. Another visitor mentions a free sweet treat for their child at Halloween. Food earns steady praise too: the homemade chicken, bacon and mushroom pie with a light crust, a Roast of the Day bap piled with beef and crispy roast potatoes, and the bread and butter pudding are all called delicious. Others describe afternoon tea with a savoury option, a scone, and toast with plenty of jams to choose from, and one notes the food was all home made in a clean, cosy room. One reviewer finds the kids meal pizza engaging because children add their own toppings. A diner who brought their mother for her 91st birthday recalls staff singing happy birthday and bringing out a complimentary cupcake with a candle.

“Five star food and five star staff. I went in on Saturday 1st August with my mom on her 91st birthday, we both really enjoyed our meals and puddings. I would really recommend the homemade chicken ,bacon and mushroom pie, the light crust is a work of art on its own, chips gravy and veg were delicious. On the way in mom mentioned she was 91 today and on paying the bill out came some of the staff singing happy birthday with a complimentary cupcake and candle. The perfect end to a perfect dining experience. Many thanks to all at Stafford Soup Kitchen.”

“Very nice restaurant with long history. Kids meal pizza is very engaging by asking kids to put the toppings on the bread!”

“Staff were lovely and the service in general was great. Food was tastey and the atmosphere was spot on. We just came for a coffee and something small for breakfast. My dad had a scone and it looked really good and he had no complaints. I just had toast but was given lots of options of jams to choose from. Thank you. We will be returning again!”

“Stopped here with my partner on our travels, we were drawn to the area by the interesting history that was on offer. The food was fantastic, as well as the coffee, but the best part was the host! The building itself was really interesting, you could tell that there is a lot of history within those walls - after noticing us looking around, the host offered us a tour of the building ❤️ I appreciate that this may not appeal to most, but the attentativeness of the staff and willing to go that extra step really made it the best experience for us. Should we pass through again, we will without hesitation drop by!”
