Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the setting: a lovely beer garden in an old mill, with benches spaced well apart, flowers, trees and a stream running alongside. Food draws praise for the mill burger with some of the nicest chips one diner has had, a carvery described as fresh, hot and tasty, and puddings including creme brulee, sticky toffee pudding and a refreshing lemon meringue sundae. Others found the cooking uneven. One reports a dry, crumbly bacon cheeseburger and hard, chewy chips, though the gammon with pineapple chutney was good. Another describes an overcooked lamb shank, and a third found the Sunday beef chewy. Service splits sharply. Several describe friendly, efficient staff, while others report very slow food, sausages sent back for arriving pink, and a wedding party outside taking priority over restaurant guests. One table of five received only four meals, and the manager's apology came with a discount that was first applied to the meal that never arrived.

“We had a really lovely meal. We had The Mill Stone special. It's was extremely fantastic value and extremely great food. The lady was rude and sent us out while some photo were been taking on the steps. So lady said I did not book the right name in which I did because I booked in online.”

“Service was absolutely dire from start to finish. It didn't start well, cutlery was put out in front of us with the servers hand on the prongs of the fork. A basic drinks order was treated as though we'd ordered in a foreign language. There were 5 of us but only four meals came out. It was treated with a shrug of the shoulders and asked if we'd like a drink! When my husband said we'd rather have the 5 meals we'd ordered a check back with the kitchen was if you want to wait we can put it on now. In summary, what only can be described as an utter lack lustre response was unbelievable. My husband ended up asking for an empty plate to share his food out in order to allow me to eat with the rest of the family. The manager came over and said sorry and offered us discount on the food ordered and a round of drinks. When the bill came the discount was no charge for the food that we hadn't had!! Eventually a discount was offered. I cannot understand how a business operating like this continues to trade. To say it was the worst experience on eating out is an understatement. We certainly wouldn't recommend to anyone unless a drastic change of management and staff takes place.”

“10 out of 10, what a find! Beautiful location and the food is to die for. We had greek chicken to start, I had a creme brulee, for dessert and my husband had sticky toffee pudding. Couldn't fault anything, we will absolutely be back!! Thank you so much Edit....we came for sunday lunch, I would give this a 5, I had beef which was really chewy, the veg and yorkshire were nice enough though and the setting is nice, so to sum up, normal meals are nice but not sunday lunch, well, the beef anyway.”

“Booked for the carvery and it did not disappoint! Kiddo ordered off the menu and the staff very kindly offered to keep us updated on when it would come out so we could all eat together. Everything was fresh, hot and tasted great. The puddings were also top tier! Definitely will be back!”
