Customer Review Summary
Sharing steak is the draw most reviewers return to, from a T-bone described as perfectly chargrilled to a chateaubriand special called tender and juicy, and a prime rib with a lovely charred taste. The chips are repeatedly singled out as some of the best reviewers have had, and one reviewer calls the bacon burger sensational. Sticky toffee pudding earns similar praise. Staff are described as friendly, fantastic and attentive, and the old pub atmosphere gets a nod, with one suggesting booking in advance because it gets busy.

“Best burger I ever had. Truly sensational. A journey of taste and texture. You get the saltiness and crispiness of the bacon, the meltiness of the cheese, the juiciness of the beef, the sweetness of the onions. The buns were soft, smooth and fluffy but crispy around the edges. It all blends so well together.”

“We came here for dinner and shared a steak, food was great however side dish for the salad could of been bigger as it was for sharing. Overall a lovely meal and the sticky toffee is the best one I’ve had. The staff were fantastic and great service throughout. Pervious review: Phoned up to book a table, lady on the phone was sarcastic and rude. Unfortunately this puts me off wanting to return here despite food being great previously.”

“A lovely old pub in the heart of St Albans with plenty of character and a fantastic atmosphere. The food was excellent, and the chips were honestly some of the best I’ve had in the UK! Service was friendly and welcoming, making for a great overall experience. I would definitely recommend booking in advance as it gets busy for good reason. Highly recommended!
