  “Oldest pub in Southport, friendly bar staff and welcoming atmosphere. Good selection of beers, food looked nice but we just went for drinks. The Secret Garden out the back is a great suntrap.”

  “This was my 2nd time coming to Southport for a 3-day event in 2 years, and I am glad to try this restaurant’s Sunday roast lunch which is served from noon to 7pm on Sundays. I took an evening walk last night to find this restaurant before I came back today, and the female bartender last night was very welcoming and friendly. She helped me reserve a table at 2pm today when I was going to take a break from the event, and when I arrived today the table was already ready for my arrival. When I walked inside I saw the table next to mine with 6 diners, and the food portion on their plate seemed to be quite a lot so I opted for the smaller portion option of the beef roast Sunday lunch on the menu, which was £3 less for only £11.95. I am glad I chose the smaller portion option since that was enough for me. The beef roast was tender and delicious. I loved the potatoes and fresh vegetables that came with it, and highly recommended it.”

  “What a great find last Sunday. The Sunday Dinner was fab. I had turkey and my hubby the beef. Both excellent and really good portions, careful they are quite big! Staff were lovely and friendly. It isso nice to find a local pub serving homemade food.”

  “4th pub on our tour of real ale inns of Stockport. Good Food, very nice menu. Though not so impressed with the ale options, so tried the Old Rose cider nice day for a Cider. Very refreshing. Probably not as good as others on our tour but yes we would come again.”

  “I’ve recently moved to Southport and the Cheshire Lines is my nearest pub to home. And what a great local it is. Friendly and efficient service from Keggs and a warm welcome from the landlady. Tried the food, which was delicious. I shall be returning again and again”

  “Been to this pub 6 times in last 6 months food seems to be getting worse everytime we go 1. Had soup and fish coupons excellent 2.had sausage and mash was OK but gravy like dish water . 3.had ploughman's lunch came with sausage roll porkpie and slice of cheese that was it terrible 4.had chicken leek pie it was just pastry no filling like it was shop bought 5.had lamb shank all I can say it was edible 6.a lot of thing on menu dont come with what it says on menu example chicken and leek pie with vegetables it came with mushy peas which I dont like . Really like pub but food needs looking at not very good”

  “What a lovely dog-friendly, traditional pub to visit. We have eaten there a few times and found the food to be excellent and prepared to a high standard. The Cheshire Lines Butchers Block meal is a must for a hungry meat lover, just wow! Great how it's dog-friendly and you can enjoy a meal with your dog by you. Everything seems reasonably priced. Staff are friendly, quick and attentive. Definitely a go-to place when I'm in Southport town area. Nice outdoor areas also, when weather permits.”

  “Just called in for a pint as I first started to come here in the Seventies when I worked just around the corner. I used to pop in for lunch most days as it was a cosy little place and they did very nice food. Coming back 50 years later I was surprised to find it's hardly changed except for the dining area which has had a recent refurbishment. I think this is a good thing as I'm sure this is the way the regulars like it. Hope it stays like this for the next fifty years. Will have to call back to try out the food as the menu looks very good with reasonable prices.”

  “We came here as part of the Southport Beer Week Ale Trail and we’ll be back for sure. Good hand-pulls, friendly staff and mentions of ghosts!!! Didn’t have any food but will look at having some next time. Also, a good little book library.”
