What reviewers say
Reviewers most often mention pub quiz nights, sunday roast, fish goujons and camembert bites.
Customer Review Summary
The Sunday roast draws the most consistent praise, with reviewers repeatedly calling the beef version "really good" and pairing it with a burger also described as good. Close behind, quiz nights on Thursdays and Mondays and a birthday buffet come up often, with diners singling out the fish goujons, fresh sandwiches and wraps, and small fried cheese bites as standout favourites, alongside a general sense that the pub is well presented and decorated with care. Several also mention an ale-knowledgeable manager and staff who foster a good atmosphere during busy periods. Service is where opinion splits sharply. Multiple reviewers describe a grumpy or miserable staff member at the bar, one noting a customer wasn't asked how their meal was and had to clear their own plates and fetch dessert themselves, after finding the fish and chips dry and a starter arriving with dressing despite it being requested plain. One diner also reports being fined after not being told to log their car registration in the car park system, and is still awaiting an appeal outcome.

“We didn't eat, we were on a long journey home from up North and needed a drink. Staff are fabulous here and the prices are great. BUT, noone told us we had to put our car registration into a signing in system and I have just received a massive fine. Maybe out of towners could be informed of this. We have sent an appeal with the receipt proving we were in the pub but now I have to wait and see. Gutted”

“Visited today for the 3-course lunch option. The starter was nice, although it arrived with dressing and sauce despite specifically asking for none. For mains, I had the fish & chips and my partner had the gammon. Unfortunately both dishes were very basic — the fish in particular was dry and lacked any real flavour. The main disappointment though was the service. We were never asked how our meal was or whether everything was okay, and after finishing our mains we waited quite a while for the plates to be cleared. In the end, we had to go to the bar ourselves to ask for the plates to be taken away and for our desserts to be brought over. The overall impression was that the staff member serving us didn’t really want to be there — that may not have been the case, but it was certainly the vibe we got. What made it more disappointing was that the restaurant wasn’t busy at all, so the lack of attentiveness stood out even more. We’ve eaten here previously and it was spot on, which makes today’s experience even more disappointing. Sadly, based on this visit, we’re unlikely to return.”

How this listing is sourced
- Where the data comes from
- Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
- How it stays current
- Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
- How it is ranked
- Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
