About Lahori Masala Southall

Lahori Masala Southall is a Halal Pakistani restaurant at 179 The Broadway in Southall. Its breakfast menu includes halwa puri channa and nihari, which is ordered with kulcha on the side. The main menu adds lamb karahi, and the bread list runs from laccha paratha to sesame and butter naan. A papadum comes to the table to start. Because the whole menu is Halal, the kitchen suits diners who need that. A second seating area upstairs gives the restaurant more room beyond the ground floor.

Customer Review Summary

Halwa puri is the dish reviewers raise most, and opinions split sharply. Two diners praise it as delicious, while another found the channay so salty that most of it was thrown away, and a third described two puris with sparse chana, halwa and potato curry. Karahi comes close behind, with one reviewer calling the lamb karahi spectacular and another naming the chicken karahi among the best, though a third felt the chicken charsi was too close to a standard karahi for its higher price. Paya, masala fish, fish pakora, hareesa and laccha paratha are described as authentic and tasty. Nihari divides opinion too: one breakfast order had great spice and chilli, while another tasted reheated and lacked depth. Service is called friendly, but one early breakfast visit saw the halwa arrive well before the puris. One diner was asked whether food should come together or as it was ready, and everything arrived piping hot.

“I came around 16:00 hours with my family to dine in since we were shopping in southall. When we entered we was met with amazing service by our waiter and arranged a table for us. The restaurant is perfect for all family sizes and they have additional seating upstairs as well as toilets. We sat down and had look at menus, everything was good looking and priced averagely! I ordered the lamb karahi bonless medium, rice. Chicken biryani, lamb biryani, mix grill, chips, chicken tikka pieces, lamb kebab and chicken curry! There were a few other things ordered too. Also I forgot to say, they gave complimentary papadum which is always nice and ice cold water and even gave extra ice cubes too. After ordering even though the restaurant was adequately busy the waiter asked us if we want all food together or whatever is ready first. We said all together but in my head I was worried that the food will be cold. However, all the food came within half an hour and it was piping hot! Absolutely piping hot. The lamb karahi which I ordered was amazing, absolutely spectacular no faults. The sauce was just another notch. I ordered some more papadums and finished it with the sauce. The lamb biryani was good too, normally restaurants mess up a lamb biryani but the meat here was tender and juicy!! The rice was fresh too and flavourful. The chicken biryani, you can’t go wrong can you? This restaurant didn’t fail. 10/10 The mix grill, the chicken perfect! Soft and juicy fell of the bone. 10/10 I ordered chicken tikka too, I thought it will be red but it came in a different colour, I will give it a 9/10. It came sizzling hot and steaming but it was just missing that little bit of taste I can’t really describe it but didn’t really feel like tikka. The restaurant service was absolutely amazing throughout. They play really good instrumental cover music too! ( I love that ) Thank you for serving me and my family. Bill came to around £145. Divided by 6 people =£20 bang on average and for this service as well as quality of food, I’ll happily pay more.”

“My recent visit to the Southall branch of Lahori Masala for a family breakfast was, unfortunately, a significant disappointment. While the establishment boasts a pleasant seating area and inviting decor, the culinary experience failed to meet even basic expectations for authentic Lahori cuisine. Halwa Puri Chana: The portion sizes were underwhelming. The meal consisted of two puris accompanied by a sparse serving of chana, halwa, and an negligible amount of potato curry. The side of achar was similarly minimal, lacking the generosity one expects from a traditional breakfast spot. Lamb Nihari: This was the most notable shortcoming. The dish lacked the depth of spice and the robust, slow-cooked character synonymous with authentic Nihari. Furthermore, the quality was questionable, as the dish felt reheated rather than freshly prepared. While the kulcha ordered on the side was decent, it could not salvage the main dish. Parathas: The parathas were remarkably unremarkable, lacking the crisp, layered texture of a well-made breakfast paratha. They felt mass-produced and lacked the care one would expect from a specialty restaurant. The karak tea was disappointing—a very basic, uninspired blend that failed to deliver the bold, spiced flavor profile one anticipates when ordering this traditional drink. It was served unsweetened, requiring manual adjustment, but the underlying tea base was simply subpar. Despite arriving at 9:00 AM when the restaurant was quiet, the service was unexpectedly sluggish. A lack of coordination in the kitchen resulted in staggered service; my halwa was served well before the puris arrived, rendering the meal disjointed and preventing us from eating together. While the ambiance and interior design provide a promising setting, Lahori Masala falls short where it matters most: food quality, freshness, and authentic flavor. Given the wealth of superior options for a traditional desi breakfast in the area, I cannot recommend this establishment. I will not be returning, and I suggest diners seek out more consistent and flavorful alternatives.”
