About Tudor Rose

Tudor Rose is a family-run pub on Chestnut St in Sittingbourne, open daily. The beer garden serves Shepherd Neame ales, and the kitchen cooks a British menu. Sunday brings a carvery with roast beef, turkey and lamb, served with roast potatoes, and the cauliflower cheese side is large enough to feed at least two people. A two or three course deal runs alongside the carvery. Separate vegetarian and vegan menus are also available for diners who want meat-free dishes. A conservatory area adds a further place to sit and eat.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often return for the Sunday carvery and roast dinners, praising generous portions of meat, crispy roast potatoes and a cauliflower cheese side that one reviewer says feeds at least two. Close behind are the starters and puddings, including a prawn cocktail, pâté and an apple crumble one reviewer rated 10/10. Several describe friendly staff who rearranged bookings, brought a separate vegetarian menu, or gave a young child a colouring book and a bespoke meal. Service draws mixed comments: one reviewer found some staff helpful and others barely acknowledging customers. Another describes a recent visit with a forgotten dauphinoise request, a reserved booth swapped for another table, and a fillet steak ordered medium rare that arrived grey and was still charged in full. A pre-ordered vegetable bake was called bland, and one reviewer found no soya milk despite a vegan menu. One reviewer found the lamb fatty and awkward to eat, though the roast beef and turkey had plenty of meat on the plate.

“I had a pre ordered vegetable bake which was very bland, not very cheesy and just full of big cauliflower and mushroom pieces. I've had a bake from here before which was delicious so know that this wasn't the same. I was very disappointed as it's not cheap either. At present, there is scaffolding all around so a but noisy too.”

“We were really taken care of tonight in the Tudor Rose. We were seated around 5 o clock, two adults and a three year old. Staff took extra care to make them feel welcome with a colouring book and asking the kitchen for something bespoke for them to eat. Lots of choice on the menu and the food was delicious with generous portions. Will definitely be back given how close we are. Thanks again!”

“Huge roast dinner, very tasty, nice crispy roast potatoes, if you order the cauliflower cheese it feeds at least two people so dont be put off by the price of it! Pudding was lovely as well. Very nice sunday lunch. Service is a bit hit and miss, some ladies very nice and helpful others barely want to acknowledge your existence so a 3 stars for that, sorry to the lovely ladies that were helpful.”

“After being turned away from another pub nearby, where the staff made little effort to accommodate us for lunch, we decided to stop by The Tudor Rose instead and what a difference it was. From the moment we arrived, the team went out of their way to help. One of the staff members even rearranged bookings to find us a table, which was greatly appreciated. At first, I was a little disappointed as I couldn't see many vegetarian options on the menu. However, a lovely member of staff quickly brought me a separate vegetarian menu, and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety available. The food was excellent, the portions were generous, and the service genuine. What makes places like this special is that it's a family-run business, and you can really feel the care and pride they put into what they do. These are exactly the kinds of local businesses we should be supporting. Thank you to the whole team for a fantastic experience. Keep doing what you're doing and I encourage others to support this wonderful family-run pub too.”

“It saddens me to write this review because I’ve been going to this pub for years and it used to be 5 star all round. The last time we went, the service was gold - staff couldn’t do enough - and the food was stunning except they forgot to bring out half of my dinner with my sea bass (but as I said, the food was so good and the fish so delicious I didn’t even notice they missed my sides and didn’t bother complaining; I just put it down to being busy. I’ve worked as a chef and even a waitress in pubs when I was younger, so I totally get it). Today, however, it was like a completely different pub. No atmosphere. Disinterested staff who could not be bothered - we felt so unwelcome and was out of there straight after we ate. My partner asked if they can do dauphinoise and the lady behind the bar said she’d check and never got back to us. We booked a booth (where we always reserve) and we were taken to another table as they didn’t want to clean the booth. My brother ordered cod and chips and got a sauce pot of peas (literally, the spoonful of peas were served in the same size ramekin as the tartar sauce). I special ordered in a fillet steak (as it’s not on the menu; and this is the type of thing I loved about this pub; they usually go above and beyond) and I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out so over cooked it was gray - and I left half of it and was charged full price, even though I’d told 2 members of staff it was over cooked (and yes, I was offered to order something else but it was Sunday and the menu is tiny on a Sunday; there was nothing else I fancied, hence ordering in the fillet). And the worst part, it was the end of the day so pretty empty, so the chef can’t have been under presser. Honestly I’m gutted. It was for my partners birthday and such a disappointment when we’d been looking forward to dining here for a whole week. I’m not saying this to deter people (I urge everyone to give this pub a chance because as I said, it’s usually gold). I just hope the management observe this service and the chef on today’s shift because it was below par.”
