About The Peacock Stannington

The Peacock Stannington is a pub at 714 Stannington Rd in Sheffield, built around a Sunday carvery and a weekly run of themed nights. The carvery is served by a chef, and a Sunday menu runs alongside it. Tuesday brings curry night and a quiz, and Thursday has both a pie night and a carvery night. Orders are placed at the bar, and the chef comes out to advise on gluten free options. Dogs are welcome, with a sign at the entrance. Theakston is served on draught.

Customer Review Summary

The carvery draws the most praise, with diners describing hot, fresh food and lovely desserts at a busy Sunday lunch, plus a butternut squash wellington one group called delicious. Curry night comes close behind, and one reviewer's group of about 45 plans to return after a meal there. Others single out the quiche, a pint of Theakston and the ice cream, and the pub is described as laid back, clean and friendly, with trivia and quiz nights mentioned. Staff are repeatedly called lovely and welcoming, and one family says the carvery chef and the lead waiter led their grandad to the table and carried his plate. The main complaint is booking. One reviewer trying to reserve a Saturday lunch for five found the online system capped at four, felt the person on the phone seemed stressed and eager to open, and cancelled later. Dog owners note the welcome, and a coeliac diner says the chef came out to talk through gluten free options while the dog got a generous portion of beef.

“Came to the peacock as we recently moved to the area and decided to have some light lunch. On arrival we saw the dog friendly sign we took our baby cockerpoo. As we arrived the staff were friendly and approachable. I ordered at the bar and asked about gluten free as I’m coeliac , the chef came out and told me my options and made sure the food was safe. Absolute bonus speaking to the chef as I get nervous ordering foods in new places. Food was quick and came it was lovely! The atmosphere was relaxed and ice cream was delicious. Will be bringing the family soon. Bonus - coeliac safe and dog friendly!”

“Been to the Peacock numerous times over the years but never really felt compelled to write a review until today. We came for a family meal for my grandads 90th birthday and had the carvery. Really nice hot and fresh food and lovely desserts. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. The chef serving the carvery and the manager/lead waiter were both brilliant - great service and really considerate of grandad, leading him to the table and carrying his plate for him. The staff at the bar were friendly and helpful too. It was a busy Sunday lunchtime and everything was served to us in good time. I would definitely consider coming for a meal again - thank you!”
