Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the beautiful old building, with history on the walls, fires in winter and a garden described as excellent in summer and fantastic. Close behind are a breakfast one diner calls superb and staff described as friendly, pleasant and helpful, along with a classic selection of food and drinks. Complaints centre on service and upkeep. One breakfast review describes bacon sent back twice for being underdone, cold toast and runny eggs, and several mention dirty glasses and plates left on tables, with one asking staff to clear a table. Another says cold food arrived quickly but the drinks came long after everyone had finished eating, and one notes that many draught beers were out and the mushy peas looked like green slime. A parent reports being asked to turn down children's tablets, and another says a car waiting briefly during a pick-up drew a parking fine despite online mention of free parking for customers.

“First and last time I will come here. Food as you would expect from a wether spoon... Cheap cheerful and tasty. In all years I've been with my two children going to family pubs for dinner. I have never been told their two tablets are too loud (volume locked to prevent full blast) and I need to turn them down even though there was only one young family near us with tablets on the table. Will be reluctant to come here again.... Prefer to travel a bit further to sheaf island”

“I came to pick up my daughters friend . I stayed in the car, my daughter went to find her as the battery in her phone had run out. It took just over the alloted 10 mins . To my dismay I revived a 100£ fine in the post. My family have often frequented this establishment for family events and get togethers for refreshments and sustinance. It said free parking for customers when I looked online . I won't be arranging any family meals for here anymore.”

“Usually fairly good service good range of beers and good food but really dissapointed today. Ordered food and drinks from the table at 7.35, food arrived after less than 10 minutes but much of it was cold. Our group all finished our meals and the drinks still hadnt arrived. FORTY THREE MINUTES later the drinks arrived. Very poor service, book your ideas up guys, a pub full of dissapointed punters tonight and not just at our table.”

“Prefer my eggs cooked… My mum had been there to eat on Monday and had requested her bacon well done. The bacon was basically dipped in the pan so she took it back and they cooked it longer. This time (Wednesday so 2 days later), she made the point to the server at the till that she wanted the bacon well done/golden brown. Regardless, the bacon again was just about cooked. She then complained again and took her plate to the bar. They said to just eat her food and they would bring her new bacon. Ten minutes later, they came over to take the bacon from her plate and then cook it for longer, so after this delay she had to wait again for the bacon to be reheated and cooked more… I ended up giving her some of my bacon otherwise she would’ve finished her meal before her bacon even came. The toast was cold, butter wouldn’t melt so had to put the lukewarm sausages in between bread just to try and get it to soak in. Eggs were so runny that it gave me the ick and I could not eat them, even the whites were really slimy. Photos are how the eggs came, whites barely on top or folded back/caught. I cut into the side of one and saw uncooked egg white so that was enough to put me off completely. When we arrived there were tables not cleaned with dirty glasses and plates still left out. We had to sit at a table with empty mugs on. No one came to collect any plates or mugs or glasses whilst we were there. (Good 30-40 mins). The place wasn’t even half full, it looked quiet, there were maybe two tables max in use outside, so no excuse for poor service, cold food and lack of hygiene.”
