Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is the most frequent draw, with reviewers praising the roast beef, the roast pork and the chicken, and one singling out the pork as superb. Desserts earn mentions close behind, including an apple tart, a creamy bread and butter pudding and a meringue with fruit and cream, and one group had a birthday message written on the plate and sung to the table. Reviewers repeatedly describe the staff as friendly and the service as warm, and some call it a lovely village gastro-pub. The caveats are specific. One reviewer found the starters overpriced, citing three bits of asparagus and an egg, though it was nice. Another said it felt more like a restaurant than a pub, not welcoming or cosy, with only one real ale on tap. One mentions limited parking, and one says beef needs to be requested if wanted more well done.

“A great pub! We came for a Sunday roast, food was very tasty and the inside of the pub was great. Delicious fresh food. Friendly service. Only issue was there was not much parking.”

“We booked this place by chance, while looking for a location half way between where we were on holiday and our friends. It was his 70th birthday celebration (or at least part of it!) so we booed and turned up for Sunday lunch. Arrived to find a lovely quaint old English Country pub. As we walked in we were warmly greeted and take to our table. The interior was surprisingly bright for a low veiled old building. Service was attentive yet discreet. Two had roast pork, two roast beef and one the burger. We all loved everything. If you like your beef more well done then you’ll need to ask for it that way. The pork was superb. Deserts were yummy, the apple tart was stunning. To round things off the staff kindly wrote Happy Birthday on Steve’s desert plate and sang “Happy Birthday” as it arrived. Suitably embarrassed he enjoyed his meringue and fruit with cream. All in all and excellent experience. Sadly a little too far for us to travel from the South Coast otherwise this could become a regular haunt. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED”

“A proper local pub with lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, and a cracking pint. We popped in after a long walk and felt right at home straight away. The roast was spot on too, making it a grand stop for a relaxed Sunday lunch.”
