About Firehouse Bar & Grill
Firehouse Bar & Grill sits on Fore Street in Saint Ives, a bar and grill set across the ground floor and a basement dining room, with a covered, heated outdoor area at the front for diners who prefer not to sit inside. Dogs are welcome throughout. The kitchen covers a wide grill-led menu, with hake, fish and chips, half rotisserie chicken and a chicken and ribs plate among the options. Chips can be cooked in a separate fryer, and sides include coleslaw, while sticky toffee pudding closes the menu. Staff take orders and serve at the table, and the team highlights menu items that can be adapted for dietary requirements, with phone enquiries taken the day before. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner, and bookings can be made by phone.

Customer Review Summary
Reviews are sharply divided: most diners describe very good food and friendly, attentive service, with the sticky toffee pudding, half rotisserie chicken, and fish and chips singled out as standouts. One reviewer also praises the team's gluten-free preparation. Two diners, however, report the opposite, describing burnt steak, over-salty food, slow service, and dismissive staff. Several suggest booking ahead.

“If you want rude waitresses and over seasoned salty food then this is your place!! So, we ordered 2 hake and the chicken and ribs, they came to see if everything was ok after 3 bites which everything was fine but here’s the thing, nobody is interested whether it’s good or not it’s just a conveyor belt. As a chef myself in a high class establishment this food was absolutely awful and if I was the owner(s) I’d certainly be questioning the skills in the kitchen! Not a place I would recommend nor a place I will return as at the end I complained about the experience but the person in charge couldn’t be bothered to even come back to me after I refused to pay the ridiculous prices for not even sub-standard food. Don’t waste your time or money at this place, you would have a better experience and food at the local fish and chip shop.”

“Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. There were only two people working on the floor, and unfortunately neither seemed to be paying attention to the tables. It took a very long time for anyone to come over and take our order. We ordered two drinks, but only one arrived. We didn’t want to make a fuss, so we simply shared the one drink. Then our mains arrived, and this is where things really went downhill. We ordered a flat iron steak medium-well, but what we received was so badly burnt that we simply couldn’t eat it. We tried to speak to someone about it, but it was almost impossible to get the attention of any of the waitresses. After waiting around an hour, I eventually had to go to the bar myself to speak to someone. I explained the situation and asked if the steak could be removed from the bill. I was told that it couldn’t be removed because it was apparently supposed to taste like charcoal. We completely understand that a charcoal-grilled steak can have a smoky, charred flavour, but there is a big difference between being charred and being burnt to the point where it is inedible. The whole experience was incredibly frustrating, especially having to chase staff down ourselves after already waiting so long. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we wouldn’t return or recommend it.”

“Awesome food with quick service! We rang up the afternoon before booking and asked what they could do exclusively gluten and dairy free for my partner who has coeliac disease. They ran through the phone what could be done but what was more impressive is we went in and they had highlighted and circled the menu before our arrival what could be done! This gave us real confidence that my partner would be catered for and we wouldn’t have any issues! We had the half rotisserie chicken, chips (cooked in a separate fryer) and coleslaw. Very well cooked and tasty. They didn’t have any dairy free & gluten free options for desert but I did try the sticky toffee pudding which I must say was one of the best I’ve ever eaten! Staff gave us confidence from the get go and I would highly recommend for fellow coeliacs to call ahead as well so you can be catered for best. Thank you team! Great job and great food 🙏🏻”
