Quick info
About Beer & Bird St Ives
On Fore Street in Saint Ives, Beer & Bird St Ives is a bar and grill built around a chicken-led menu, with the kitchen turning out a familiar line-up of tenders, wings and sharing plates. The Mcdaddy anchors the list, pairing the standout hot honey tenders and wings in one order that several regulars split across the table. The room runs as a bar alongside the grill, so groups settle in with drinks while plates come and go. Dogs are welcome inside, and the team is known for being attentive and helpful with allergy and dietary questions. Portions run large, often with leftovers to take home, which suits the share-the-table format. Open through the day and into the evening, it serves both walk-in lunches and later sessions at the bar.

Customer Review Summary
Diners single out the hot honey tenders as the standout, with several reviewers calling them out specifically and a couple naming the wings and "the Mcdaddy" as favorites. The kitchen earns consistent praise for portion size, hot, well-cooked plates, and accommodating allergies (one party flagged coeliac and lactose needs and felt well catered for). Service draws almost universal approval, described as friendly, attentive, and welcoming, and several guests mention learning about the area from staff. A recurring 3-star account breaks sharply with the rest, describing the fried chicken burger as badly overcooked and noting the breast is butterflied rather than a full fillet; the same reviewer found service a touch slow. Most return visitors frame Beer & Bird as a relaxed, casual stop with food worth coming back to, and a few suggest booking in advance during busy times.

“The menu looks good and there is plenty of choice, but the major downside of our experience was that the chicken was WAY overcooked! Half of the burger was basically (EXTREME) crispy chicken! Considering we were paying between £16 and £18 for a fried chicken burger, that's pretty bad! Reading other reviews (after our visit) this seems to be a regular occurrence! Also, you don't actually get a chicken breast in your burger, just a butterflied breast. This is probably why the chicken was overcooked? The service was a bit on the slow side, but nothing to complain about. There were maybe 5 members of staff on when we went, and the restaurant wasn't exactly 'packed' but they seemed to be doing ok, if a little bit flustered. It seems Beer and Bird used to be a very good place to eat. Hopefully they can get things sorted out because it's a nice looking restaurant with plenty of potential..... They just need to get the quality back to where it used to be.”

“When ever we travel to st ives as a family we always call into the Beer and Bird and it never disappoints. The place has a great relaxed atmosphere. The staff are always friendly, very approachable and help where ever needed. And as for the food.........We always leave very satisfied! The food is always top notch, the portion sizes are great, we always leave with full tummies and if anything there may be a takeaway box required so we can nibble on left overs later! I would highly recommend the hot honey tenders. If you want a nice relaxed drink with great food I couldnt recommend this place enough! See you guys again next year for sure!!!”
