About The Mermaid
On Redcar Rd in Redcar, The Mermaid is a pub that trades as Stonehouse Pizza and Carvery. The carvery runs daily and is served at lunchtime, with a wide choice of vegetables that stretches from Cajun roasties and creamy leeks to peas, carrots and runner beans. Pizza sits alongside it on the menu, so the kitchen covers both a roast and a pizza order. The bar shows football, and families dine in the same pub. The pub takes walk-ins. A breakfast buffet, fried bread included, rounds out the food.
Good to know
“Budget comfort food and a daily carvery in a modern, chain pub and restaurant, showing TV sport.”

Customer Review Summary
The carvery draws most reviewers, who praise a wide spread of vegetables including cauliflower cheese, creamy leeks, carrot mash and cajun roasties, with meat that arrived hot. Several describe lovely, friendly staff who checked on diners, and one says a manager accommodated their medical needs without fuss. A pizza also earns praise, and a few note a quiet lunchtime bar with families and football fans, not too rowdy. Complaints are sharper but less frequent. One diner was not told the carvery had only two meats, swapped to a lasagne they called slop, and had the plate cleared without a word. Another waited on drinks and ice cream ordered through the app, found grease marks and a blob of butter in the bowls, and says a staff member rolled her eyes at the request to change them. One breakfast buffet visitor reports counting about ten flies around their table and says staff ignored it.

“I went to the carvery today, not been for ages and not a lot has changed, lovely, friendly and welcoming staff, absolutely outstanding food, washed down with a nice cold pint of stella, can't wait to go again.”

“It looks a bit run down from the outside so we weren’t expecting much, but we were wrong. The food was great and the bar and wait staff, Tom and Olivia, were lovely. I highly recommend this place!”

“Tried the breakfast buffet here for the first time. It was totally fine. Everything was cooked lovely and they had fried bread 🍞 but some juice options would of been nice. But this place needs to sort out the FLY issue. I counted 10 around our table. Its put me off ever going again. Didnt dare leave my meal. Literal swarms. The staff just ignore it, id be out with fly spray at least. Fly guest pic 📸”

“Walked in.... Nobody in there. Didn't bother staff and ordered through the app. Took 15 mins for drinks to arrive which pretty much came at same time as the food. Ordered I've cream through same app and another 15 minute wait before they brought bowls over after going to bar and asking... Guess the girls were too busy chatting or looking at themselves in the mirror. Upon delivery of said bowls there was grease marks and a blob of butter in one. As I went to ask to change the last rolled her eyes and sighed Asif it was my fault. Food was meh but staff even worse.”
