About Light Ash Farm Shop and Cafe
Light Ash Farm Shop and Cafe is a farm shop and cafe on St Michael's Rd in Preston. Afternoon tea, including a festive version, must be booked in advance and is served from a set time, with orders not taken before then. The menu covers breakfast, lunch and sandwiches, including poached eggs on granary toast, with homemade slaw served alongside food. A cake display sits near the till, with Victoria sponge among the selection and cakes available to take home. Seating is split between downstairs and upstairs, and the cafe can have a small wait for an inside table. The shop on site sells plant-based milk and vegan ice cream. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints are specific. A few describe the outside toilets as freezing and too few in number. One says the regular afternoon tea had small scones, halved cakes and tiny finger sandwiches for the price, and a server initially refused the order because of timing. A vegan diner was offered veggie sausage on dry white bread after the server said "We struggle with vegans." Others report no soya milk, undercooked sausages, a milkshake in a basic tumbler and an outside table left with previous diners' plates. One dog owner was disappointed that dogs were not allowed inside.

“Very nice cafe to stop at for lunch, or for a bike ride pit stop. Food is good. Some of the cakes are big enough to send an elephant into a food coma. Cafe itself can be busy at times so there may be a small wait for an inside table. Only thing to note is the underwhelmingly small quantity of toilets. The toilets are also outside so they may be unpleasantly cold, particularly during winter.”

“No soya milk, sausages not cooked properly , scones dry and raspberry jam served no Strawberry . Outrageous you might think and when asked no apology given and appears to be the norm. Would give this place a swerve if you are not a regular . The chips added to the panini were swiped onto the plate by a hand , can’t comment if it was washed but really not a practice that spreads anything else other than harm. Final point no asking about allergies . I didn’t have them when I walked in but a serious contender for catching some . Sorry but it’s a no from me . £14.95 for undercooked sausage and hand swiped chips along with pot of slaw. That’s not just worth the gamble with your health .”

“Had lunch here today for the first time. The staff brilliant and the cafe really nice. We ordered an egg mayo sandwich each n it was outstanding !! So much to eat and the homemade slaw was delicious. It will definitely be my go to place with my family & friends now. Great place all round.”

“I've been to Light Ash Farm on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. I've eaten breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and cakes and been impressed by everything that I have been served. The food is freshly made to order and of fantastic quality. I have never left hungry. The cake selection is amazing and very tasty. The cakes are available to take home, which is a good job as I've never managed to eat here and have room for cake afterwards. The staff have always been very pleasant, attentive and helpful. I will definitely be returning on a regular basis.”

“Visited via recommendation, weekday afternoon so not particularly busy. Not a great experience, young staff with no hosting skills, bought our drinks and cakes to outside table which had previous diners empty plates, didn't remove these and just plonked ours down around them! Ordered milkshake which was served in basic tumbler not even full with a straw stuck in it, for the price this was very disappointing, when this was brought to their attention that this was not acceptable, this was dealt with very unprofessionaly and eye rolling, very disappointed on the whole, toilets were also lacking attention to cleanliness and need to be managed more regularly due to footfall using them. Shame and not one to leave reviews, it's a nice place in a lovely setting but customer service lol ets them down.”
