About Oli's Thai

Oli's Thai is a family-run Thai restaurant at 38 Magdalen Rd in Oxford, set in a small space with quirky tables and chairs. The concise menu uses seasonal produce and includes vegan options and many gluten-free options. Duck panang anchors the curries, alongside a green curry and an aubergine curry, and every dish is made to order. Tables book up, but two walk-in tables open at 5 pm, so diners without a reservation still have a way in. Lattes and coffee are served too.

“Gets incredibly booked up but managed to find us a table outside. Probably the best Thai food I have ever eaten. So fresh and uncomplicated”

“A superb Thai restaurant, with excellent food, and service. I love that dishes are a little bit different. I have never had duck panang before, and it was delicious. The green curry was good, but nowhere near as good as the duck panang. We didn't have a reservation, so we showed up right at 5 pm when it opened and snagged on of the two walk-in tables.”

“Popped by for one of our first lunches out with our sleeping newborn in the pram. I’ve been here in the past, and (as a Thai person myself) can confidently give them a 2/5 for food. Nothing special, but we thought it would be a nice excursion for a quick lunch. Arriving at Oli’s (which was completely empty), we opted for a seat outside. A staff member came out and told us children were not welcome and we would be unable to dine there. While I do understand this discriminatory restaurant practice for fine dining, or even dinner time at a run of the mill establishment, it was shocking to see this policy in place at a restaurant (a deli, at that) at this level. No one appreciates a disruptive child during an expensive meal out, but to bar families hoping to enjoy a casual weekday lunch (outdoors, even) from dining is reprehensible. There are plenty of better options in Oxford where patronage is appreciated rather than turned away.”

“Fabulous tasty Thai with exceptional flavours of Thailand and just the right amount of spice… each dish is different with aromas from the kitchen and the quirky tables and chairs giving the quaint small restaurant great vibes. Can’t wait to revisit… thank you to the team at Olis for a superb lunch celebration 🙏🥳”

Customer Review Summary

Curries lead the praise, with the duck panang called delicious and better than the green curry, while the aubergine curry and the subtle flavours of another curry also stand out. Close behind are the stir-fried pork and the pork salad, and a few reviewers add that the lattes are seriously good. Diners describe fresh, uncomplicated, made-to-order dishes, friendly staff who gave advice on the menu, and a cosy, intimate room with quirky tables and chairs. The cooking does not win everyone over. One reviewer found the salad extremely sour and the main very salty and spicy, and two Thai diners say it does not taste exactly like food in Thailand, though one still calls it very good. One reviewer reports being told children were not welcome when they tried to sit outside with a newborn. Several mention how booked up it gets, and one diner snagged one of two walk-in tables, while a group with a coeliac guest found many gluten-free options.
