About Giggling Squid - Oxford
Giggling Squid, a Thai restaurant on Walton St in Oxford's Jericho area, builds its menu around dishes meant for sharing. Lunch centres on the Thai Tapas Sets, and the wider menu runs to Thai curries and spicy stir fries. A dedicated gluten-free menu marks which dishes are free of gluten, so diners avoiding it can order from a clear list. The dining room is decorated with botanical interiors. A list of Thai-inspired cocktails and other drinks sits alongside the food. The Phoenix Picturehouse is a few steps away, and the station is a fifteen minute walk.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the fried or salt and pepper squid, with one calling it the best they have had, and the dumplings are praised alongside it. The Thai green curry and sticky chicken earn strong words from another diner, the Pad Thai is noted for well-cooked bean sprouts, and the lunch set menu is called good value. Several describe the floral interior as cute, and diners with gluten allergies mention a dedicated gluten-free menu and a knowledgeable server. The main complaint is service. Two birthday parties say they were forgotten despite a restaurant that was not busy, with one group of nine asking several servers for attention, never being checked on, and finding their salmon overcooked and some starters lukewarm. A more critical visitor found the curry heavy on anise, the chicken Pad Thai heavy on tofu, and the green papaya salad too spicy, while a few others mention the bill as a small gripe. Praise for individual waitresses who made first visits and birthday lunches feel looked after appears repeatedly.

“My wife and I had a wonderful meal at Giggling Squid today, 23 July 2026. This was my 62nd birthday treat and we had a wonderful time. We were served by 2 waitresses one was called Nisha and not sure of the name of the other one. Thank you for great service for our first time here at GS.”

“Super cute floral interior that makes you think you are in a High Tea spot. The chick pea appetizer is amazing! The rest of the items we ordered just missed. Too much Anise in the curry, too much tofu in the chicken pad thai, the green papaya salad was medieval torture in its spice level, the drunken ribs were just ok, the sticky rice had to be manhandled with multiple cutlery to be separated. All perfectly edible but just not great. The 3 of us have had a lot of thai food in a lot of different countries (including Thailand) and all I can say is sadly it just missed. Kind of pricey for meh.”

“Came here for my Dads 50th birthday, there was 9 of us for the celebration. We felt like we’d been forgotten when it came to ordering food/drinks as we had to ask multiple different servers for attention. We didn’t have a dedicated server so everything seemed a bit unorganised even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. Never got asked if our food was okay or if we needed any more drinks. The food was okay although my salmon was overcooked. Some starters also came out lukewarm. We spent £350 altogether with a £30 service charge, for the amount we paid we’d expect better service. Disappointing as this was our first impression and had high hopes”
