Quick info
About Posh Fish
Posh Fish is a licensed fish and chips restaurant in Oxford, at 150 London Rd. The menu covers cod and chips and haddock, with all-day breakfasts, kebabs and steaks alongside, and a jacket potato with chilli con carne and salad. Gluten free fish, chips and sausage are served on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only, and staff discuss fryer cleaning, clean oil and cross contamination with coeliac customers. Halal fish is fried in separate oil used only for halal items, though the curry sauce is not halal. The online menu does not list every gluten free option.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the huge portions of fish and chips, with the large order described as humongous, a haddock piece so long it had to be broken to fit the box, and chips that stay generous even on a regular. Close behind is how well the kitchen handles dietary needs. Diners with gluten free and halal requirements describe separate oil for halal fish, talk of cleaned fryers and cross contamination, and gluten free fish, chips and sausage offered on set days, with one reviewer calling it the only such place in Oxford. Others single out a jacket potato smothered in chilli con carne, fresh cod, and a shop described as immaculate with hand painted artwork and comfy seating. Staff are repeatedly called welcoming and friendly, and one reviewer credits the boss lady with keeping everyone in shape. The one caveat is price: a reviewer notes it runs a little higher than some other places, though they judged the quality worth it. One staff member also warned a hijab-wearing customer that the curry sauce was not halal, so they skipped it.

“Finding a restaurant that meets my gluten free and halal diet requirements has always been so difficult- not only did this restaurant meet my requirements but the staff were exceptionally knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly. 10/10 food and service, I’ll be making the trip from London more regularly just for this place!”

“The staff was very kind and helpful, one of the staff saw the hijab and told us the curry sauce isnt halal, or else we were going to eat it. But overall great service, would recommend this restaurant”

“Popped in on our way home to Thornhill P&R ordered cod and chips. Whilst waiting had a bit of a banter with a lovely lady who turned out to be the daughter of the late founder. She has that Xfactor that makes this place a success, loves what she does and you can tell. What a pleasure. Walked into the park opposite laden with fish and chips for family. The cod was delicious. Highly recommend and will be back.”

“So.... You know that Bible story, Jesus does this miracle and feeds loads of people with bits of bread and fish! Well this place reminded me of that. I came here to get a routine Friday fish and chips and I got a bicycle for the 2 mile ride to this chip shop. I said, "One order of fish and chip please." "A large?" "Sure." "Number 164." Ok. Waited no more than 10 minutes and this bag came out piping hot with a massive bag of chips and a piece of haddock so long they had to break it so it fit in the box. All I could think is, how can I eat all of this, there's now way! Well, I managed the cycle back to college and went straight to the office and said to my colleagues - there's fish and chips if you want and they all jumped it and thankfully helped me finish it all, all 6 of us! Yea, the cycle to and fro was exhausting especially up that hill but the feeling of feeding the multitude with such a bounty was just as incredible of this hot tasty Friday treat! Posh is def the place to go.”
