Quick info
About New Ground Coffee Oxford
New Ground Coffee Oxford is a coffee shop at 6 St Michael's Mansion in Oxford that also serves natural wines, with single-origin hand brews alongside the espresso drinks. The hand brews and pour-overs use beans from Colombia and Guatemala, and batch brew and cold brew are on the menu too. Flat whites arrive in ceramic cups, and the Cinnamon Roll with Flat White pairs a pastry with the coffee. Green Tea and Jasmine Tea sit on the list for anyone who wants something other than coffee. Pastries are sold next to the wine and coffee, and beans and packaged coffee are available to take away. The menu runs to 15 items, and the interior is a small, minimalist room with a modern finish.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the coffee, with the flat white and hand brews drawing the strongest praise, and one reviewer calling the cold brew the best they have had. Batch brew and a latte also earn mentions, alongside pastries described as delicious. Close behind is the setting, called clean, minimalist, calm and classy, with lots of laptops and benches outside. Staff are described as friendly, though one reviewer found a male staff member ignorant. Price is the most repeated complaint: a flat white is called high for the size, and two reviewers found the matcha and pour-over cups poor value. One said the matcha tasted like slightly sweet green water, and another found two pour-overs from Colombia and Guatemala weak and lacking complexity. One reviewer said the flat white arrived with milk and espresso visibly unmixed. Another describes the toilets as filthy, with what looked like black mould by the sink. A wheelchair user noted the toilet door opens outward, which makes the passage awkward.

“Very easily one of the best speciality coffee shops in Oxford. Incredible packaging, lots of different kinds of beans and some of the tastiest batch brew around. I have to stop myself from buying a coffee everytime I walk past.”

“Nice coffee but filthiest toilets I've ever seen... it's not even a case of I may have caught them on a 'bad day', they clearly haven't been cleaned properly for months/years. Looked like black mould growing next to the sink. Soap dispenser filthy, plastic wrappers everywhere, the list goes on. Needs a deep clean/organise/repaint despo.”
