About Broche Specialty Coffee

Broche Specialty Coffee is a small specialty coffee shop in Oxford, at 165 Kingston Rd, right next to a barber shop. The coffee menu includes V60 pour-over, so drinkers can choose a hand-brewed cup over espresso-based drinks. On the pastry side, the team bakes European-style pastries, among them a pecan croissant with chocolate and cherries and a cinnamon roll. Desserts are offered alongside the coffee for anyone who wants something sweet with their drink. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring their pets along when they stop in.

Customer Review Summary

Pastries draw the most praise at Broche, especially the croissants. One reviewer calls the pecan croissant with chocolate and cherries impeccable, another praises croissants fresh out of the oven, and others describe the desserts as works of art. Coffee comes close behind, with the V60 described as bright with a hint of berry, a rich and smooth espresso, and a cappuccino one reviewer counts among the best they have had. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and fast, even when a queue forms, and the outdoor seating and calming music also get mentions. The main dissent comes from one reviewer who found the offering ordinary. The savoury options advertised on Instagram, including a three cheese danish, were unavailable, the remaining pastries were basic items like cinnamon rolls and almond croissants, and the creamy iced coffee was a plain iced latte with foam that seemed no different from the velvet iced latte. Another reviewer recalls the baker smiling with pride as they took their first bite of a fresh croissant.

“For someone who loves to try different new coffee shops and bakeries, Broche was a bit disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, the bakery and coffee was good but nothing that really stood out and made this place different. I saw on their instagram that they offer some savoury options and was looking forward to trying their three cheese danish. Then in person they informed that they don’t have any savoury options at this time and the rest of the options were quite basic: cinnamon roll, almond croissant, au pain du Chocolat etc. Also I was very curious about their creamy iced coffee, but it wasn’t creamy at all. It was a simple iced latte with a fluffy foam on top (not even thick and creamy that you would expect from that name). My friend got herself a velvet iced latte, which looked and tasted the same? So from that experience, it was quite disappointing. I might be picky here, but this was my experience. Things I enjoyed: a lovely seating area outside, easy access to some water and good music.”

“Had such a lovely experience at this café today. The coffee and pastries were absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was really welcoming. A special mention to Aaron, who was warm, friendly, and professional throughout — such great customer service really makes a difference. Will definitely be back!”

“Had a double expresso from here and it was lovely light roast with a fruity under tone , really enjoyed it. Will have to try the amazing pastries next time as they look and smell so good. Custom service was lovely as well, like the relaxed atmosphere and calming music in the background really nice.”
