About Society Café
Society Café is a coffee shop in Oxford on St Michael's St, at number 12-16, just off Corn Market and opposite the Oxford Union. The coffee list changes with a rotating set of guest coffees, and a selection of beans is on hand to choose from. The baristas explain the tasting notes and help match a bean to your drink, whether that is a pour over or an espresso drink. Alternative milks are available, and the menu also covers hot chocolate, chai latte, matcha and tea. The bakery counter includes vegan pastries, among them a vegan pain aux raisins. Freshly roasted beans are sold to take home, and seating continues downstairs in the basement. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return above all for the coffee, with several singling out the rotating guest beans, the pour overs and the espresso, and describing balanced flavours with caramel and chocolate notes. The staff draw repeated praise as friendly and knowledgeable, with one barista explaining the tasting notes of two coffees and others helping match a bean to a drink. Close behind are the calm, relaxed atmosphere, the outdoor seating and a quiet basement, which some say suits working. Vegan pastries, including a vegan pain aux raisins, and a salted caramel brownie earn mentions. Food is the weaker side. One reviewer wants more eats, another found a cinnamon roll tasteless with no cinnamon filling and the chai latte average, and one wished for vanilla syrup for the matcha. A busy visit left no free seats and uncleared cups on the downstairs tables, and one drink arrived with oat milk instead of the almond milk requested.

“Awesome! I was at a conference next door to this cafe. I'm a massive coffee enthusiast so took great delight in trying the coffee here. I had multiple espresso coffees from this cafe over four days in Oxford. I tried the salted caramel brownie too, which was divine - sweet and not overly rich. The staff are lovely, very friendly and quick service. Good value for money in my opinion, good coffee is not cheap and that ensures the farmers and those who roast it etc get paid properly. Loads of coffee on retail, all freshly roasted in the last 2-3 weeks. Really highly recommended! It will be my default for coffee when I'm next in Oxford!”

“Society Café - Oxford 12–16 St Michael’s Street, Oxford, OX1 2DU A coffee experience that deserves its reputation. From the moment you arrive, you notice the outdoor seating area, great location and well-thought-out layout. Inside, the attention to detail continues. The space is welcoming and clearly shows how much effort and thought goes into what Society Café does. The coffee selection is one of the biggest highlights. Unique, beautifully branded and presented with incredible attention to detail. There is so much choice that the hardest part is deciding which one to try first. I was given two coffees to try, and the barista was fantastic at explaining each one and its tasting notes. Their knowledge, professionalism and friendliness really stood out. The coffee I tried had smooth golden caramel and chocolate notes, with light fruity notes. The flavours were beautifully balanced, making it a very enjoyable cup. It was also great to see vegan options available within the bakery selection, which is definitely a plus for me. My ratings: Coffee: 10/10 Range of coffee: 14/10 Barista service: 12/10 Society Café is highly rated for a reason. The coffee, selection, attention to detail and customer service all show a real passion for what they do. I’ll definitely be back to try more. Highly recommended.”

“Very welcoming and the matcha was nice, just wish they had some vanilla syrup for the matcha as it’s always tastier with a pinch of vanilla”

“Over hyped café: The cinnamon roll was tasteless, there was no cinnamon filling whatsoever and it was just covered by a slimy cinnamon glaze which did not make up for the lack of cinnamony flavour inside the roll. Average chai latte and overall experience.”
