About Café Orient
Café Orient is a Chinese restaurant in Oxford, in the OX4 1UE postcode. Aubergine has a clear place on the menu, with glazed aubergine and an aubergine pot among the dishes. The portions are generous, and the food suits sharing, so a group can order several plates and pass them around the table. For a first visit, the aubergine dishes are the ones to look for, and they work well as part of a shared spread rather than as a single plate.

Customer Review Summary
Aubergine dishes come up most often, from the aubergine pot and glazed aubergine to a pairing with the roast duck that one diner urges others to order. Close behind are mapo tofu, mala xian guo, steamed boneless chicken in chilli sauce, and Kou Shui chicken, which one regular calls a go-to dish with a kick of spice. Others single out the pork belly and tofu, cucumber in vinegar garlic, and the Chinese noodles. One suggests bringing a group for the hotpot because the portions are so large. Reviewers describe the food as authentic, delicious, and affordable, with generous portions and quick service. Staff are called friendly, lovely, and welcoming, and the atmosphere chilled. Because it gets busy with both sit-in and takeaway customers, one reviewer recommends booking. A small group with a large appetite says the restaurant accommodated them last minute and served them delicious food.

“I've been to nearly every Chinese restaurant in Oxford and this is easily one of the best. My favourite dish is their pork belly and tofu. They also do really good hotpot: I would recommend having it in a group as the amount of food they give is a lot, but all of it is delicious. It's so good even my girlfriend who has lived in China most her life says it's one of one of her favourites. And I can vouch having spent over a month there tasting the best foods I've ever had. Really can't go wrong with any of their dishes. In addition the serving lady is kind and attentive. 11/10 recommendation.”

“Incredible food! Especially the steamed boneless chicken in chilli sauce. Shame this restaurant isn’t closer so we can come back sooner. Service was really friendly. It was very busy, with both sit in guests and take away I would recommend booking. Cash or card.”

“A friend recommended this place and I am SO glad they did! Couldn’t fault the food, it was absolutely delicious. Every dish was as good as the last - particularly loved the aubergine pot and cucumber in vinegar garlic. Service was great, staff were so friendly and accommodating. Chilled atmosphere. Loved this place and will definitely be returning.”
