About Sun Hong Chop Suey House
Sun Hong Chop Suey House is a Chinese takeaway at 7 Knights Rd in Oxford, next door to a chip shop. Orders are placed at the counter, and the kitchen opens at 5pm, so it runs evenings only, Tuesday to Sunday, and stays closed on Mondays. The menu includes chow mein, prawn toast and egg fried rice, and the chicken balls are ordered with curry sauce. Together these dishes cover the familiar Chinese takeaway range for an evening meal.

Customer Review Summary
Chicken balls draw the sharpest split among reviewers. Two call them better than any they have had, with good pieces of chicken, a curry sauce to match, and quick delivery that arrives hot. Two others say they were swimming in oil or did not taste like chicken balls. Egg fried rice divides too: one calls the mushroom version surprisingly good though small, while others describe it as burnt or hard. Prawn toast was wet and mushy in the middle for one. Long-time customers say standards slipped after new people took over. Service is the most repeated complaint: a rude woman at the counter, an order with missed items she refused to accept, and a delayed Christmas Eve order where the owner shouted asking whether they wanted to cancel. One reviewer reports mould on a delivered order, with only a discount on the next order offered before the caller was hung up on.

“The owner of the Chinese is a horrible person. 2 hr wait, kept on ringing and lying to us on the phone. Do not order from here. Awful place when we made the last call the lady owner shouted do u want to cancel Wrecked our Christmas Eve as a family. Too late to order elsewhere. Angry😡”

“We have ordered from this Chinese restaurant for over 20 years. We have received our order tonight with MOULD on our food, tasteless and barely warm when arrived a £50.00 order gone to waste. We calmly called the restaurant to explain what had happened and asked that we would like our money back as the food was barely edible, the lady we had spoke to had offered only a 20.00% discount on our next order and would not address the mould on our food which was our main concern. She then had hung up the phone in frustration as we did not wish to accept this as our meal had gone to waste. This is very disappointing as such loyal customers for a long time. Not even a sorry was expressed for the inconvenience from the lady”

“Only giving 1 star as I can't give 0 stars. Where to start. The bald headed woman who takes your order is the rudest person ever. Missed items from my order. When I placed each dish on the counter and added up was short the items she had missed. Baldy still refused to accept this. She should not be working here.”

“My favourite Chinese in Oxford! Always quick delivery, always hot when arrives. Reasonably priced compared to others in the area! Chicken balls are out of this world, I don’t eat them anywhere else but it’s always top of my order when we get a Chinese from here!”
