Customer Review Summary
Cake draws the most comment at this coffee house and shop, described as delicious and tempting with plenty to choose from, though one reviewer found the slice small and the coffee cup small for what it cost. Close behind are the two-course Plum Lunch with a free coffee or tea, called well presented, and the Plum Breakfast, which one diner found reasonably priced. Several praise the vegan choices, the friendly waitresses and the stunning, gorgeous shop section. The complaints centre on the kitchen. Two afternoon tea parties found the food substandard compared with past visits, citing too few sandwich fingers, tiny cake squares that looked cut from tray bakes, and cheesy bites in place of the promised sausage rolls. Two breakfast diners reported burnt or crunchy bacon, a hard or overdone egg, and an underdone or missing hash brown. One said the manager focused on payment rather than the complaint. Service praise still holds, including a complimentary Prosecco and vegan scones ordered in specially for a Mothers Day table.

“We had afternoon tea for four people £80. I was so disappointed that I rang this morning, talked to the manager, but I didn’t think my complaint was taken seriously. There was one vegetarian and one diabetic. We were given two salmon fingers, two han fingers. Not enough to go around the three meat eaters. The total fingers must have been made from twelve slices of bread. The cakes, two carrot, two Victoria, two chocolate were tiny squares taken from tray bakes with a strawberry on top. So not enough for one each for the none diabetics. The diabetic was promised sausage rolls and quiche instead of cakes, they were cheesy bites, but not tasty and the quiche parcels were ok. The fruit scones were ok but not enough jam or cream for four people., although they did bring more out on request. The girl serving us was fabulous and absolutely no complaints about the service. We have been for afternoon tea several times previously and the standard and choice is sadly lacking, with cheap, anything will do food. It is difficult these days to provide good food as it has become very expensive, however, this was definitely not worth £80 even in today’s economy.”

“Yesterday l was treated to afternoon tea for my birthday. Sadly, It was a disappointment. In the past the afternoon teas have been fabulous so l was so looking forward to this event. Sadly the food was substandard. Not worth the £80 fee. Nothing like the wonderful food before. The waitresses we're great, not their fault. They work hard. Sadly l shall go elsewhere for my afternoon teas !!!”

“What an absolute gem of a place! 💎 First time visiting & It was very busy when we arrived (which to me, is always a good sign) as we didn't book. The very kind & friendly waitress set out to accommodate the 3 of us regardless, so we had a wonder round the stunning shop. We ordered from The Plum Lunch Price Fix (2 courses plus free coffee or tea), which is great value for money & very well presented.. cake was a real treat too! (Plenty to choose from). All the staff are polite and helpful. Food was prompt even tho it was busy. The atmosphere is nice & relaxed. We will most definitely be returning again. 💜 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“Visited this morning and very Disappointed in the breakfast quality and the response from the manager. The waitress brought over the manager and at no point did I ever say I was not going to pay for it but just wanted to comment on the Quality. First thing he said before asking what my complaint was "is because we had eaten 90% of it we would have to pay", as I say I never ever said I wasn't going to pay. Bacon was cremated and like cardboard, beans had lumps of something ( looked liked old lumps of beans from scraping off the burnt pan). Hash brown totally underdone and very soft. Egg not runny but very hard. Presentation not the best. I said if this is the normal standard We would not be coming back, He wasn't bothered just the fact that we still must pay for it, which we did. We will NOT be going back and neither will any of our acquaintance's that we speak to. On the way out I heard him telling a group that the were so busy because of the quality and would best to book next time, I nearly had words with them but I am not like that type of vindictive person , just give honest feedback to try and help a business going forward, but the manager was NOT listening to what I was saying to him....!!”

“Absolutely fantastic cafe. Excellent service & food. Lovely furniture & homeward section with quality items. The Plum Breakfast was adequate portion size, staff flexible with item choices & very reasonably priced. Booked a table for 2 online. Highly recommended 5*”
