About The Joseph Else

The Joseph Else is a pub in Nottingham at 11-12 S Parade, with seating on two floors and upstairs windows that look over Market Square. The pub takes its name from a local sculptor and serves real ales alongside a comfort-food menu. Breakfast covers bacon, sausages, egg and beans, and pancakes with bacon and maple sit on the same menu as burgers and jacket potatoes. Wednesdays bring a Wetherspoons pizza deal that includes a free drink, and a Tuesday Club offer runs as well. Orders can be placed at the bar or through the app.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers come mainly for cheap, familiar pub food, with the Wednesday pizza deal and Tuesday Club burgers as the named bargains, and one diner praises spicy veggie nuggets with chips and veggie sausages with mash, peas and gravy. Close behind is the layout. Upstairs and downstairs areas mean space to sit, the upstairs windows look onto Market Square, and a few call it a laid back spot for a group starting a night out. The complaints are recurring and specific. Several say food arrived cold, from a breakfast with barely cooked bacon, a rubbery egg and unheated beans to watery beans and a tepid plate elsewhere. Two reviewers mention a smell of urine in the building, and one describes tables and cutlery that looked uncleaned. A pancake order with a single strip of bacon, an overly crispy buffalo chicken burger, a slow app order and a broken upstairs coffee machine also come up. Staff earn credit for sorting out an order mixup, and one table was told how to add a forgotten curry sauce for free.

“The food was tasty, the portion sizes were good, and it felt like great value for money. The seating area was simple yet aesthetic, making it a cozy spot to relax, read, or catch up with friends ☕✨”

“Terrible breakfast. Came very cold and bacon looked like it had been cooked for all of 15 seconds. Sausages extremely poor tasting. Egg was like rubber. Beans straight out the can without being warmed up. Plate was cold. I know its cheap at £7 but even at that you expect some sort of standard. Wouldn't recommend.”

“Popped in for food before we went to the Castle beer festival. Got a table up stairs, which was good because downstairs stank of urine at the bar. Service at the bar upstairs the first time was quick and good, we used the app the second time and it tuck ages. Food was ok, a little cold and the beans where not the best, tastless and watery!”
