About The Tap House Notts
The Tap House Notts is a self-serve craft beer bar in Nottingham, on Byard Ln, where guests pour their own taster, half or pint and pay only for what they pour. A card is issued at the entrance, and the balance is settled on the way out. The taps carry beers, ciders and cocktails, and wine is served without a card. The kitchen makes deep pan pizza in the Detroit style, sold by the slice. Food is paid for at the front desk and collected from the kitchen desk. The inside space is small, with mostly high tables. The bar is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers centre on the pour-your-own-beer system, where a card tracks what is poured and only the amount taken is charged, so a taste, a half or a full pint is possible. Several like the idea and the variety of taps, and one calls the pizza a good size to share even though slightly oily. Close behind, the beer selection splits opinion: one visitor found only a single beer they liked, another found little they wanted during Oktoberfest, and a third reports most taps unavailable. Complaints about execution recur. One reviewer says taps keep pouring for several seconds after release and still charge, leaving froth and beer over the table. Others describe one person handling entry and payment, and a greasy pizza that put one group off ordering. One reviewer reports a wet, smelly toilet floor, and another reports staff smoking weed outside with the door open. Staff knowledge on the ingredients and brewing earns praise from one visitor, and another finds the noise low enough for conversation. A Margherita delivered to the wrong table sat for ten minutes without an apology.

“A disappointing experience - the taps don’t turn off as you finish pouring your drink, continuing to pour for an additional 4-5 seconds and still charging you! This wasn’t isolated to one tap as it happened on multiple, causing the drinks to overflow with froth, the glasses to get wet and then covering our table in beer when we sat down…..where no napkins or coasters were provided!”

“Looks like a hidden gem with a cool concept, but isnt. After a pepperoni pizza that tasted like it had been dunked in a vat of honey, and being charged for a dip it later turned out they didn't have in stock.. that they then replaced with a dip we said we didn't want, we foolishly ordered a Margherita pizza as replacement, which was actually nice, but had been mistakenly taken to a different group's table and left to sit there for ten minutes before being brought over - no apology or offer to replace with a warm one. Staff, mardy manager included, seem more concerned with racing to have a smoke by the front door than running a business.”

“Good section of beer however most weren’t available. Firstly waited at the door for 10 minutes until someone appeared to give us the cards. Once we sat down a roundly hunch which seemed to know both girls working shouting and swearing. Then both workers went out multiple times with the rowdy bunch to smoke weed outside with the door open so the whole bar stank. And in general really disappointed with the experience as it’s a nice idea for a pub.”

“I’m a big fan of the self serve bars that are popping up so was excited to try The Tap House. We got there around 18:30 on a Saturday Night, so we knew it would be busy. It’s not very big inside. When you first arrive, they explain the concept to you. You receive a card, and tap for the beer you want - this isn’t the same for wine, you don’t need a card for the wine. It was difficult to understand as it’s one person dealing with people entering and exiting, as you provide the card at the end and pay for it. So with it being busy, one person dealing with everything and not a lot of room to move out of peoples way, we found ourselves really overstimulated. We found space outside - it’s three benches down an alleyway but that did us nicely. We didn’t have any beer, but our friends who did have the beer enjoyed it. Food was reasonably affordable, but again, you had to go to the front desk with the one person dealing everything to pay and then return to the kitchen desk to receive. It’s a great concept, just needs better execution I think.”

“A fairly new establishment in Nottingham. We didn't book despite being the pre-cmas busy weekend period. We got a table. The drinks on the tap are all self-serve, and you pour as much as you like and only pay for what you poured. So the prices are given in units (pint or 150ml serving) but if you poured only 4/12 of a pint you pay 4/12 of the per pint price. You get a choice of cocktails, beers and ciders. There is a limited choice of pizzas served they are all deep pan, though, but still nice. The noise level is acceptable and you can actually have a conversation with your companions without having to shout. Overall verdict. A good place to go in the late afternoon to taste drinks, engage in world changing conversations over a beverage if that's what floats your boat.”
