About Burnt Stump
Burnt Stump is a pub in Nottingham, housed in a red-brick country inn with a garden that overlooks a cricket pitch. The kitchen serves traditional pub food, with a mixed grill and a cowboy burger on the menu, and Sunday lunch is served as a roast. Steak is also on offer, and chips come triple cooked or as skin-on fries. Food is ordered at the bar, and ice cream sundaes are available for dessert. The pub opens daily, and dogs are welcome inside. Its windows and garden also take in the country park.

Customer Review Summary
The mixed grill and its steak draw the most mentions, and they split reviewers sharply. One diner calls the steak the best they have had, while others say steaks ordered medium or medium rare arrived well done and chewy. Close behind, the bar staff are repeatedly described as friendly, and the view over the cricket ground and country park is liked. Reviewers also single out the cowboy burger, the ice cream sundaes, and Sunday lunches called huge, with one suggesting booking ahead because walk-ins were turned away. Chips divide opinion: one calls them among the best, while another finds the new skin-on triple cooked version dry. Cleanliness is the recurring complaint. Several describe smelly toilets, stained chairs, sticky tables and litter outside, and one reports flies both indoors and out. Others mention dry, tough nacho bites and a watery vegan chilli with about two spoonfuls. Multiple reviewers describe tables left covered in used glasses and plates, with one party clearing their own table.

“Son had mixed grill and I had Americano sirloin steak. Son asked for medium/ rare and mine was supposed to be medium. Both came well done and very chewy. Son ate is but I left mine as cannot chew very well. Husbands birthday and his choice of venue. He had cowboy burger and no complaints there. If you are going to offer steak on the menu please make sure the chef knows how to cook it. I would suggest you ask customers if everything is ok and then if not can be rectified. Once food served not a member of staff in site. A table next to us almost got served the wrong food and had to wait longer. They had ordered Sunday roast so would have thought there’s would have been easy to serve quickly.”

“Today we visited the Burnt Stump in Nottingham. On arrival, the barman was friendly and provided good service, so I have no complaints about him at all. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was extremely disappointing. The restaurant itself was very dirty. The toilets smelled awful and had toilet paper scattered across the floor. The chairs inside were stained, the floors were sticky, and there was food debris left around the restaurant. We initially chose to sit outside but moved inside to avoid the flies. Ironically, there were even more flies indoors, with them landing on us every few seconds while we were waiting for our food. It became so unpleasant that we decided to move back outside before our meals were served. When we sat down, our table still had dirty glasses and hadn't been cleared. Nobody came to clean it, so we ended up doing it ourselves before eventually moving back outside. Outside wasn't much better, with baby wipes and other litter left on the ground. The food was equally disappointing. Everything we ordered was seriously overcooked and well below average. The nacho bites looked and tasted as though they had been cooked, left sitting for some time, and then reheated or refried, making them dry, tough, and unpleasant to eat. Overall, the standard of the food was extremely poor. I appreciate that it's the school holidays and venues can be busier than usual, but it really wasn't that busy during our visit. I only saw one waitress the entire time, which may explain why the cleanliness had been neglected. Overall, apart from the friendly barman, both the cleanliness and the quality of the food were far below the standard I would expect. Sadly, based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend visiting.”

“We went to Burntstump Friday 17th July. Me and my partner both ordered the mixed grill. It was cooked to perfection. I can't stop talking about the steak that was on the mixed grill. We have been to steakhouses on more than one occasion but this is the best steak I have ever had. If I'd have known how amazing it was going to be I would have ordered the steak. I asked the bar staff the name of the chef and they couldn't be more helpful. The chef was called Chris and I will 100% be going back purely for a steak. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Highly, highly recommend.”
