“We hired the downstairs, The Underbelly, for my 30th birthday and it was absolutely perfect. The staff were exceptionally helpful, the audio equipment was easy to use and the atmosphere was perfect. We had about 30 guests and the room felt full and bustling without being overcrowded or uncomfortable.”

“Really enjoyed our visit here. Hearty pie & mash meal, good selection of ales and friendly, helpful staff. It would definitely be a regular haunt if we were local to the area. Sadly it was a one off visit but it won't be forgotten for a long time. Thanks guys & gals 👊👍😀”

“A pub that definitely has it right- busy with food but very much maintains a pub vibe with music and drinkers very much made to feel welcome. Adnams house which I'm not overly keen on but they had German lagers on tap, I enjoyed my pint of kostrizer. Didn't eat but the menu (and the food coming out) looked very good. Chatty and knowledgeable bar staff completed and enjoyable visit, would definitely return.”

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the pies, with Pieminister pies, mash, peas and gravy named repeatedly as hearty and delicious, and one reviewer calling the Tuesday quiz awesome. Close behind is the beer, where diners praise a good selection of ales and German lagers on tap, including a pint of kostrizer. Staff come up again and again as friendly, helpful and chatty, and the atmosphere is described as busy and welcoming while still feeling like a proper pub, with live music on a weekday evening and an eclectic music choice. The downstairs room, The Underbelly, gets its own praise. One reviewer hired it for a 30th birthday with about 30 guests, another describes a party in the cellar, and a third calls it tiny but fun with a great sound system. The main complaints are small. Two reviewers regret that only three Adnams ales were on and wish for guest or seasonal brews, and one finds the gravy getting weaker recently. One group that hosts regular social meet ups says the staff go above and beyond to accommodate them.
