Quick info
About Sarchnar Restaurant
Sarchnar Restaurant serves halal cooking in Newcastle upon Tyne, near the NE4 6NX end of the city, and every meal arrives with a complimentary soup of lentil, okra or chickpea, plus bread and cold starters, so a single order lands as a full spread. The short menu centres on lamb qozi, with lamb biryani and tapsi also served. Seating inside runs to only a few places, enough for a family, and a toilet is available. Drinks are taken from a fridge, including a yoghurt drink. Tables are taken on a walk-in basis rather than by reservation, and the kitchen opens daily. Meals can also be packed up in a carrier bag for anyone eating off site.

Customer Review Summary
The lamb qozi is the dish diners name most, with one reviewer describing meat so soft it slid off the bone and another finding it lacking in flavour and not as good as versions eaten elsewhere, though still pretty good. Close behind are the lamb biryani, the shefta, and a breakfast of eggs with honey and cheese served with olives, fresh naan and yogurt. One reviewer calls the tapsi the dish to try. Portions are repeatedly called huge or generous, and several praise the friendly staff, reasonable prices and food that arrived within minutes. The room itself is described as simple, with one reviewer noting it is not a high end restaurant. Several mention free extras: lentil soup, bread and cold starters, or okra and chickpea soups served with the meal. One takeaway customer was told to help themselves to a drink from the fridge.

“My wife and I were looking for somewhere to have breakfast around 11 o’clock this morning. While she was searching for places, I spotted this restaurant and suggested we give it a try. Looking back, it was definitely the best choice we could have made today. My wife ordered eggs with honey and cheese, served with olives, freshly baked naan, fresh yogurt, and tea. Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. It was an amazing breakfast. I ordered the Shefta, and honestly, it was one of the tastiest dishes I’ve had in a long time. The flavour was incredible and difficult to describe—it was simply outstanding. The food was excellent, and the staff were friendly, welcoming, and polite, which made the whole experience even better. There is plenty of parking nearby, making it very convenient to visit. The prices are also very reasonable and offer great value for money. I highly recommend this place to everyone, and I will definitely be coming back again. Thank you to everyone for such a wonderful experience! ❤️☀️💚”
