Bianco nero
Quick info
About Bianco nero
Bianco nero is an Italian restaurant in Newcastle Upon Tyne that reaches beyond that billing on the plate, with chicken shawarma served alongside salad and lamb shank brought out with rice, dall and beans. The restaurant sits at the end of Mill Lane, opposite a hotel and a car park. Tables are set for eating in, while the same kitchen handles takeaway orders for anyone eating off site. Reservations are recommended if you want a table at a set time. Doors open daily, so the shawarma and the lamb are available through the week rather than on selected nights.

Customer Review Summary
Lamb draws the most attention: one diner describes a lamb shank with rice and pots of vegetables, another a plate of lamb with rice, dall, beans and salad called filling and different. Close behind is the chicken shawarma with salad, ordered by a family visiting before a gig, and several single out how inexpensive the food is and how welcoming the owner and staff are, one calling the cooking clean. Against that sits a recurring dispute over charges: one reviewer says staff tried to overcharge even after being shown the menu, and another says prices seem made up on the spot. Two accounts raise more serious concerns, one describing grime on the surfaces and a chicken wrap left uneaten, another reporting a shawarma that smelled off and was binned. A further reviewer objects to cars parked on the double yellow lines outside a blind corner despite the car park opposite. The good visits close on the freshly made naan that comes with each dish, washed down with Turkish tea.

“Yesterday the food was worse and smelly. I bought a shawarma on the way back home, and was very hungry. When i opened the shawarma it was very smelly as they didn't wash the chicken or the chicken was too old and became poisonous and smelly. I trashed it. I would like to report them to the food inspector to have a weekly check on them and ban them.”
