Erbil Restaurant
Quick info
About Erbil Restaurant
On Westgate Rd in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Erbil Restaurant is a shawarma restaurant serving customers on a walk-in basis. Bread is made fresh in-house, served soft and warm alongside the shawarma. Lamb and chicken shawarma are the recurring orders, often wrapped, with a fresh salad served alongside and cheesy chips available as a side. Orders are placed and described at the counter rather than from a printed menu, and food sometimes comes out item-by-item rather than all together. A queue at the counter is common. The restaurant opens daily and takes both card and, implicitly through counter service, in-person payment. Beyond eating in, the kitchen handles takeaway and delivery orders, letting customers get the shawarma and sides to go or brought to them.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often come for the shawarma, with chicken and lamb the named fillings, and several call the meat tasty, juicy and well seasoned. Close behind is the freshly made, warm bread, which one reviewer found softer and tastier than at other shawarma places in Newcastle. Fresh salad, nice sauces and a big portion of cheesy chips also get mentions, and many reviewers describe the food as cheap and delicious, with one noting a family of four fed for a small sum. Staff are described as friendly, and one reviewer says a busy queue still moved quickly at lunch. The criticism is narrower. One reviewer had no menu, was asked to describe the order, and was served one item at a time, collecting shawarma, then sauce, then chips from the counter, while the samoon that day came out very firm and did not rise. Another reviewer wanted a menu with prices, and one Arabic-language review dismisses the shawarma and pizza outright. Several diners say they eat here weekly or plan to return, and one adds that the place is very clean.

“Really high quality shawarma meat. The freshly made breads were the strongest point for me as they were softer and tastier than other shawarma places I’ve tried in Newcastle. Salad was lovely and fresh, sauces were nice. Some of the best value for money I’ve experienced. Fed 3 adults and 1 child for 15 pound. Cannot go wrong.”
