Quick info
About Rose Restaurant
On Westgate Rd in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Rose Restaurant serves Persian food alongside Turkish dishes, with a halal menu throughout. Hot and cold mezze opens the meal, and the koobideh, minced lamb kabob, is a recurring order alongside a mixed grill of lamb chops, minced lamb kofta, chicken shish, and chicken wings. On Saturdays, the kitchen adds khoresht ghaimeh, a stew of yellow split peas with lamb and smoked aubergine, served with Persian rice and salad. Most mains come with Persian rice, salad, and naan bread, and Persian tea or a yogurt drink round out the table. The restaurant opens daily, and diners are welcomed to their table when they arrive. Card payments are now accepted, a fairly recent change from the restaurant's previous cash-only setup.

Customer Review Summary
The koobideh and mixed grill draw the most praise, with reviewers describing juicy lamb chops, minced lamb kofta, chicken shish and tender, well-marinated meat alongside fresh salad, rice and naan. Close behind, diners repeatedly call out generous portions and reasonable prices, one citing a Saturday special of Khoresht Ghaimeh, stewed yellow split peas with lamb and smoked aubergine, for eleven pounds, and another noting two starters and two mains came to thirty-six pounds. The hot and cold mezze starter and Persian tea also get individual mentions, with one reviewer enjoying the yogurt drink alongside it. Service is described as friendly and attentive across most visits, with the owner sometimes coming to check tables were satisfied, though one diner reports a staff member seemed to have attitude and that it dampened the visit. A separate reviewer felt the dining room setting could be improved, suggesting it be made "a bit darker and less like a dining room." Several mention returning again soon after their first visit, including one pair who came back the very next day for takeaway.

“Absolutely beautiful food, great portions succulent meat that is marinated with the perfect blend of ingredients. Fresh salad, rice and naan bread to accomplish and mop up the meat juices too. We ordered the mixed grill as per and we weren't disappointed. The lovely owner came to greet us after, to ask if we were satisfied with our meal (nice touch!) We couldn’t fault the food or the service and would both, 100% recommend and return.”
