Customer Review Summary

Halwa puri is what reviewers return to most, with the puris described as light and the halwa as perfectly sweet, and one parent noting a year-old child loved it. Parathas come close behind, called soft and like proper homemade ones, in cheese, omelette, keema and chicken tikka versions, alongside the karak chai, the Apna Breakfast with masala beans and desi omelette, and generous portions. One group breakfast praised quick, hot service. Consistency is the recurring complaint. One reviewer found the halwa puri soaked in oil with an oily chickpea curry on a later visit, another called everything beyond paratha and halwa puri average, citing waffles, a grainy cheesecake and a faluda that was only ice cream with basil seeds. Others describe stale reheated masala chips, a chicken sandwich packed with cheese that stayed cheesy when remade, and a sour-smelling milk cake for the second time. One reviewer reports a hair in a dish and a refund covering only that dish, and describes a cold manager.

“Horrible management and zero hygiene. Save your money. I’ve been here twice, and both times were a total joke. The first time, the manager was super cold and rude to me while I was waiting for my food. But the second a guy from his own nationality walked in, his whole attitude changed. He suddenly became all smiles and friendly. It was so obvious that I literally told him, "Oh, so you do know how to smile." Decided to give them another chance today, and it was even worse—found a hair in my food. I told the waitress and asked for a full refund, but they only gave me back the money for that specific dish. The worst part? Neither the manager nor the chef even bothered to come to the table to apologize. Before leaving, I confronted the manager myself. He admitted he knew about the hair, but instead of apologizing, he gave me the exact same cold, arrogant attitude. He actually tried to excuse it by saying "the chef wears a hijab," like that somehow explains away a hair being in my plate. No professionalism, no customer service, and clearly no hygiene standards. Definitely never coming back.”

“Came to visit and was really looking forward to the food. Masala Chips were stale that had been re heated. Chicken sandwich genuinely had 5-7 slices of plastic cheese inside of it and thats all I could taste along with ketchup. Asked if they could make another one with out cheese. They did, But it still had 4 slices. I gave up at this point. Husbands paratha was decent though.”

“Visited My Karak Chai for breakfast with a group of 15, all ordering different items. Despite the size of the group, the service was excellent — everything came out quickly and piping hot. I had the Apna Breakfast, which was really good. The parathas stood out, soft and tasting like proper homemade ones. The masala beans and desi omelette were full of flavour, and the chai was spot on. We also had halwa puri, which was very enjoyable and well done. Around the table we had a mix of English breakfasts, saag with paratha, and French toast options like Lotus and Nutella & strawberry. The feedback across the group was very positive and everyone enjoyed their food. Portion sizes are generous, and the restaurant is clean with plenty of seating, making it ideal for groups. Overall, a great breakfast spot and definitely worth a visit.”

“We had the most delicious and authentic breakfast at My Karak Chai—truly one of the best in Newcastle! The classic Halwa Puri was absolutely fantastic: the puris were light, and the halwa was perfectly sweet. Even our year-old daughter loved the halwa, which is a huge seal of approval! The Karak Chai was robust, hot, and perfectly spiced, making it the ideal accompaniment. Exceptional food combined with great, attentive service made the whole experience wonderful. Highly, highly recommend this spot!”

“We were craving desi food and came across this restaurant. We ordered the Halwa Puri, Chicken Tikka Paratha, Keema Paratha, and the Biryani. The food was delicious and full of flavour. A solid spot for comfort desi food, would definitely come back for more.”
