Customer Review Summary
Lamb is the dish diners return to most, from the Lamb Rogan Josh Pie with flaky pastry and gunpowder chips to the lamb chops, called perfectly cooked, and the Lamb Rohangosh, packed with flavour. Close behind are the smoky dishes: tandoori broccoli, smoky saffron paneer tikka, and black lentils or dal makhani, which reviewers describe as rich. Butter chicken, tiger prawns, sea bass, and the mint and mango lassi also get mentions, along with cocktails and a good spread of vegetarian and gluten free choices. Staff are described as friendly and helpful, and one reviewer says nothing was too much trouble even when the room was very busy. The recurring complaints are noise and cost. One diner found the room so loud they could only hear the person sitting next to them, and described three courses with small bottled beers as pricey once a service charge was added. Another was surprised by what two small bottles of lager cost. One family says their son renamed the cheese naan double cheese white pizza.

“A cozy place to have an evening full of tranquility. My son gave a new name to their cheese naan i.e. double cheese white pizza! The tiger prawns are very tasty and delicious. Black lentil was out of the world, OVERALL a very good experience.”

“1st time visitor to this restaurant. We had a voucher for the Chefs Taster menu. Didn't know what to expect but was definitely not disappointed. The staff were friendly and helpful and explained everything we were given. Nothing was too much trouble, even though it was very busy. The Manager on duty was especially helpful. Our food was amazing and even though it was a taster menu there was so much delicious food. My only one gripe was that we had 2 small bottles of lager, equivalent to a pint each and it cost us £27. I would highly recommend this restaurant and definitely will return.”

“This is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been too! The food is so delicious and flavourful! We started with papad basket, which comes with three delicious chutneys, a must if you are a poppadom fan! Then we shared the onion bhajis, saffron paneer tikka, and jasper aubergine. The smoky paneer was everyone's favourite! There were great vegetarian options, I had the asparagus and mushroom korma which was delicious. My mum and brother both had seabass and really enjoyed it. We tried a couple of the cocktails at the start of our meal which were amazing, and also enjoyed their wine selection. We had desserts as well which were also so delicious! I would really recommend this restaurant for a memorable and flavourful meal!”

“Absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. The Lamb Rogan Josh Pie was packed with rich, tender lamb and beautifully spiced filling, all wrapped in perfectly golden, flaky pastry. Every bite had incredible depth of flavour — comforting but with a proper kick of authentic Rogan Josh spice. The Masala Peas were a brilliant accompaniment, adding freshness and a subtle warmth, while the Gun Powder Chips completely stole the show with their crispy texture and addictive smoky spice seasoning. The Rogan Josh sauce tied everything together perfectly — rich, velvety, and bursting with flavour. A seriously creative and expertly executed dish that delivers on both comfort food and bold Indian-inspired flavours. Easily one of the best pies I’ve had. Five stars without hesitation!”

“Had a fantastic dinner at Khai Khai! If you are looking for top-tier Indian food in Newcastle, this is the place. The Lamb Rohangosh was packed with flavour, and the Tandoori Chicken had that perfect, authentic smoky char. The Beef Curry was rich and tender, pairing perfectly with their fluffy naan breads and aromatic jasmine rice. Even the Biryani was fragrant and well-seasoned. The service was warm, and the vibe is intimate and cool. Highly recommended for a special meal”
