Customer Review Summary

Generous portions are the most repeated draw, with reviewers describing a fillet steak in peppercorn sauce, spaghetti and meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce, and a door stop wedge of strawberry cheesecake. One party was too full to try the vegetables. Close behind is the family-run, welcoming feel, with hosts described as Italian and friendly, and a wine selection reviewers praise. Pasta cooked just right, a cured meat starter and seabass that melted in the mouth also earn mentions, and several reviewers chose the restaurant for birthday celebrations. Some advise going hungry and booking well ahead because it is busy. The main criticism comes from one reviewer who found the room tired looking, the plate swamped in sauce so the vegetables would not fit, and the cheesecake heavy and jelly-like from too much gelatin. That reviewer says a waiter laughed when the sauce was raised. Another reviewer notes a nut allergy was catered for, with staff explaining that nuts appear only in the trifle.

“Very tired looking restaurant. Whilst the food is ok, too much sauce so couldn't fit veg on plate. Mentioned to waiter who laughed and said 'best first world problem I've ever heard'. Cheesecake was far too heavy on gelatin so rather than light and airy was jelly like and heavy. Sadly forgot to take any pictures.”

“We have eaten here a few times before and decided to celebrate my husband’s birthday with our family here. The food was delicious and the service was absolutely amazing. We would like to thank everyone who served us and those behind the scenes for making his birthday meal so special. Once again we found the portions very generous and excellent value for the money. We will definitely be returning.”

“The food was exceptional, offering truly authentic Italian cuisine. The pasta was cooked to perfection. The service was equally impressive, with attentive staff who ensured nothing was lacking throughout the meal. This is a charming, family-run restaurant, clearly passionate about both their food and their craft. Without doubt, it offers the finest Italian cuisine in Newbury.”

“Authentic little Italian restaurant just off the main high street. The Italian lady who served us was incredibly welcoming, almost like stepping inside her home. The food is very good and full of flavour. We didn't feel at all rushed with a huge amount of choice on the menu. A nut allergy was catered for amazingly, and they explained they don't use nuts on or in anything except the trifle. We'll definitely be retuning here.”

“We discovered this local Italian gem a decade ago and it has not disappointed on each and every visit. The food is fresh and portions generous. You are warmly welcomed by Carmen and her husband Carlos delivers up delicious plates from the kitchen. If you are in a rush, let the staff know. Otherwise, dining is leisurely. Not to be missed!”
