About Toby Carvery Newbury

Toby Carvery Newbury is a carvery at 110 London Rd in Newbury, serving an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet alongside the main carvery, and guests can bring their dogs. At the carvery counter, diners choose their meats and can mix and match, for example gammon and pork, then help themselves to veg, gravy and condiments. Plates come in small and large sizes, and pigs in blankets only come with a large. A large Yorkshire pudding is served with the carvery, and roast potatoes and vegetables come from the same counter. The breakfast spread includes sausages, bacon and black pudding, which the kitchen puts out in batches. A self-service drinks station covers drinks, and a queue for the carvery is usual at busy times. For pudding, the menu lists a honeycomb chocolate brownie sundae.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the friendly, attentive service, with several praising the servers and the carvery staff for a warm welcome and for explaining how the carvery works. The carved meat draws steady praise, including the pigs in blankets, a huge Yorkshire pudding and crispy roasties, and the honeycomb chocolate brownie sundae is called great and elite. Value gets a mention too, with a few noting the cheaper midweek carvery offer. The caveat is inconsistent vegetables and potatoes. One reviewer found the veg and roast potatoes very dry, another found no potatoes and mostly cold veg after a queue, and a third saw the veg piled together at a busy time. At the breakfast buffet, diners waited for sausages and black pudding to be restocked, and one said the bacon needs cooking more. A few drinks were also unavailable at the drinks station. Several describe a busy Saturday lunch handled quickly by two staff, and one server adding honeycomb to a sundae.

“Josh was very good & attentive. Today we had to wait for sausages, some people had eaten all their breakfast before there was more out. Last time we came had to wait till after we had finished before black pudding came out. Bacon needs cooking more. But we always enjoy coming to Toby. Its nice to be able to take what you want & not have things you don't want.”

“All staff very professional. Food really nice. Will definitely be coming back on a less busy day! Laura was our server, she did a top job of looking after us.”
  • Sarah Gibbs
“We had a lovely visit to Toby Carvery. The service was excellent, and Josh was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The meat was good, and the pigs in blankets were especially tasty. Unfortunately, the vegetables and the roast potatoes let the meal down as they were very dry, which was disappointing. Overall, the great service made the experience enjoyable, but the quality of the vegetables and roast potatoes could definitely be improved.”
  • DONNA Randall
“Our server Laura looked after us throughout the whole evening — she was friendly, attentive, and knew the menu really well. She took the time to explain the specials, answer our questions about ingredients, and checked in regularly without being intrusive. Her service made the whole visit feel relaxed and welcoming.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great meal and even better service at Toby.”
  • Skye -
“Great roast as usual. Newly refurbished and with the aircon on a hot summer day is fantastic. Chef was accommodating and Laura was a happy cheerful host which makes all the difference. Keep up the good work!”
