About The Reindeer at Long Bennington
At 22 Main Rd in Newark, The Reindeer at Long Bennington is a gastropub that runs themed menu nights, including build-your-own Burger night, Pie night and Moules Frites night. The steak and ale pie comes with mash, cabbage, carrots and gravy. A tapas selection brings chorizo, squid, meatballs, bread and olives, and the pizza menu uses thin bases with toppings like goats cheese, onion, fig jam and rocket. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along for a meal or a drink. The bar pours Cruzcampo, Moretti, Guinness and guest bitters, and live music and brunches are sometimes part of the programme.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is the main draw, with most reviewers praising the roast beef as cooked perfectly and melt in the mouth, alongside crisp roast potatoes, a good Yorkshire pudding and extra gravy offered when asked. Close behind are the themed evenings, where diners describe a freshly made burger with skin-on fries, a home-made Steak n' Ale pie and a mussels and chips night. Others mention light-battered haddock and chips, a lemon tart, a tapas selection with chorizo, squid and meatballs, and thin-base pizzas with goats cheese and fig jam. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and a few note that a new chef and new ownership have brought improvements. The main complaint comes from one Sunday roast diner who found the portion very small, with only two roast potatoes that weren't crispy, woody undercooked cabbage, a pale cauliflower cheese and gravy that was barely warm. Several others close on a return visit, with one already booked in for the next themed night.

“Excellent Sunday Lunch We visited The Reindeer in Long Bennington today for Sunday lunch and were really impressed. The service was excellent, and the menu was explained really well. The food was very good and, for the quality and service, we thought it was great value for money. The beef was cooked perfectly, and everything was very well presented. The meal included cauliflower cheese, and they were more than happy to provide extra gravy when needed — a lovely touch. Overall, a really enjoyable Sunday lunch with excellent service and good-quality food. We’d definitely come back and would happily recommend The Reindeer.”

“Just had Sunday lunch, exceptional, the new chef Zoe is amazing. Had the roast beef, best I’ve ever had anywhere including 5* hotels all over the world. Well done The Reindeer”

“Had an absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch at The Reindeer in Long Bennington! 🍽️ The lamb and beef were both beautifully cooked, incredibly tender and packed with flavour. The roast potatoes were perfectly crisp, the Yorkshire pudding was spot on, and all the vegetables and gravy came together brilliantly. Everything tasted fresh, generous and clearly made with care. The atmosphere was lovely, the service was friendly and welcoming, and it was just one of those meals where you leave feeling completely satisfied. If you’re looking for a proper Sunday roast, I’d highly recommend giving The Reindeer a visit. We’ll definitely be back.! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“The Reindeer has only just re-opened after extensive refurbishment and now looks clean, light and inviting. We’ve tried the Sunday lunch a couple of times which was excellent, but we booked a table for the “build your own Burger night”. I’m not a great Burger fan but I think it’s important to support your local pubs. Well, the photo says it all…..a beautiful freshly made “Sloppy” Burger with Skin-on fries and Diet Coke (Got to watch my weight) for a total of £21pp. The taste was amazing, the service was great, what else do you want for your local. We’ve booked in again for next week which is “Pie night”. I’m not really a Pie-man but I wasn’t a Burger-man but if it tastes anything like the Burger….it’ll be Fab! Definitely worth a visit. Update: Pie Night…..it was very popular, the place seemed fully booked! Decided on a Steak n’ Ale pie with Mash, Cabbage and Carrots with lashings of gravy. The pie tasted “home-made” with a shortcrust pastry…..delicious! It looks as though I’m also a “Pie-Man” Update: Moules Frites Night…..It seems as though there is a a new Chef. Had the best meal (Mussels) at the Reindeer so far, it was amazing…..I hope he stays!”
