About The Duke Of Gloucester
The Duke Of Gloucester is a JW Lees pub on Beswick Dr in Crewe, open daily after a recent refurbishment. Shuffleboard tables take the place of pool tables, and a monthly book club gives regulars a standing event to attend. The kitchen serves food through the day, with pub grub that includes fish and chips, and a pie and chips plate where the pie is made on site. The Sunday roast comes with all the trimmings, including roast beef. At the bar, a wide range of craft beers sits alongside other drinks. Customers order and pay at the bar first, and the food is then brought to the table.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch draws the most praise, with diners singling out the roast beef and the roast dinner with all the trimmings, described as well cooked and delicious for a pub. Close behind are the seabass, mentioned by more than one reviewer as delicious, and a pie and chips that one diner says is clearly made on site rather than microwaved. Others mention fish and chips, mixed grills and a burger. Reviewers also describe friendly, helpful staff, with one hostess singled out repeatedly for looking after tables, and a wide range of craft beers and drinks. The shuffleboards that have replaced pool tables are called loads of fun, and a book club and other events get a mention. One reviewer says service was swift before a theatre trip. The one criticism is that the cauliflower cheese, an added extra, came slightly undercooked and hard, and the next table said the same. One visitor found it strange that orders are placed and paid for at the bar before food is brought to the table.

“Great Pub grub. Went here with two friends we had seabass which was delicious. All the firm Pub favourites on offer and had a lovely Manchester top for pudding. Very clean staff actually top-notch could not be friendly or more helpful. Really nice atmosphere thoroughly recommend this for a night out. We went there prior to going to the Lyceum Theatre – so it was important that service was swift which it certainly was.”

“Visited Sunday Lunch, Great roast beef perfectly cooked with all the trimmings, the lovely Adele looked after us in the restaurant, and she was amazing. We then played shuffleboard and the bar staff were so friendly and attentive.”

“Came here with work a little while ago, the atmosphere is lovely it's a laid back establishment with a wide range of craft beers and your expected pub range. Replacing pool tables are these shufle boards which are loads of fun. The food was sublime, the staff were lovely, we will be back.”

“Lovely big pub with a wide range of drinks, good varied menu and friendly, helpful staff. Meals were served in a good amount of time and were delicious. We were staying at the Travelodge across from here so it was very convenient too.”

“We came for a work lunch a couple of weeks ago, it was just opening and we were the first in so it was quiet. The food was good, it’s standard pub fare. I had the biggest burger on the menu, I’ve had better pub burgers but not many. I can’t comment on the atmosphere as it was for lunch and not many in. I know they do plenty of events including a book club once a month which my wife goes to. There is shuffle board too which looks fun. The decor is great, it’s a large but cosy pub. I’d recommend it for lunch and even for those working from home who want a change of scenery.”
